It’s an automatic and it’s been driven in ‘normal’ mode
 
We had similar, unsolved issues with a FFRR some years ago now - dealer was useless, LR were useless. Though "our" issues were electrical in nature, they were as much of a PITA as yours .... we stood it 5 months.

Do you have dash cam footage of the swerving ? if not, then get a dash cam ASAP .....

Car needs to go. End of. The money side is a PITA, BUT, I had an aneurysm rupture due stress, so be careful of "tolerating" "Main Stealers" ...

Do you have legal expense insurance within any insurance policy ?
 
@PoppyW - this is not normal and I would expect your lease company (and/or your legal expenses cover via your household insurance, as suggested above...) to support you through this.

I had a new engine in a D4 Commercial at 56k miles and the dealer were superb - to be fair, I dropped it into them in broken mode on the back of an AA recovery wagon and sat my phone on the desk to play a walkaround video with the very, very rattly engine. We were due to head to France a week later and the ultimatum was that they needed to fix it or I was going to take their courtesy car away for three weeks....

I think the dealer needs to do more on the basis of your comments - if you are getting no joy, then I’d suggest an e-mail to the CEO (check Google for contact details) and raise polite merry hell, cc’ing the e-mail to the Dealer Principal and also their ‘normal’ Customer Service team.

so the long term issue is the thing is does approaching the roundabout - you can here the noise and the revs go up (at the time we are decelerating)

The lack of power at the roundabout isn’t everytime but quite often, it then does this a lot until it breaks down - it’s literally the same thing each

That's my thinking too. There should be a a paper trail with part numbers and especially engine numbers. I would expect LR to query the second order for an engine for the same vehicle.
For me this is a big red flag and says "avoid", either car or the dealer is wrecking engines so the best policy is to cut ties with both.
I think they should have given you the new engine numbers to inform DVLA of the change, seems to be many problems so would be best to walk or run away from this car
 
When automatic cars are slowing down it's not uncommon for the engine revs to rise slightly after the down change, as the engine revs need to match the gearbox. All of this needs to match the vehicle speed anorl. The car will know it's slowing down and do this. Not driven a D5 that I can remember but it won't be much different to a similar size vehicle like a newish rr. Not sure how noticeable the gear changes are on a D5.

When pulling away onto the island the car lacks speed. The engine revs pick up and it changes gear but speed seems slow. That to me is a gearbox issue. Or caused by the 'thinking' of how to supply power and in what gear.

The gearbox selection and engine control work in partnership to produce the drive you need. It's as if the gearbox is slipping or the engine is limiting the rate at which the vehicle can accelerate. I wonder if it's selected low range when this happens. Does it drive ok in low range when you manually choose it?
 
Have you plugged yer own diagnostic into it to see what error codes it's reporting when it's running ok, and faulty?
 
The financial cost of using a solicitor may be more than the loss of going for the LR option of part exchange on another car.

A technical assessment of the car may not prove anything is wrong. They won't take it apart to look for problems. Essentially witness the fault and give an opinion. Be careful to make sure a report does something to help you if you take that option.
 
I would be inclined to engage a solicitor and reject the car and go fight them in the courts.
I would start off nice "look we are really not happy with the car we have no confidence in it any more we do not think it is safe any more will you take it back" they might say yes or give you a option you like, if they do not ask how you take it up with land rover direct,
then if not joy take it to a solicitor if you have legal cover
 
When rejecting a car there needs to be a reason for doing so. Said reason needs to be evidenced based and documented. Numerous breakdowns caused by vehicle failure... video evidence (dated) of repeated faults etc. You won't get far with a rejection in the UK because you have no faith in the vehicle because of the historic problems it has had. It needs to still have problems for you to reject it.
 
It’s unfortunately been back in the garage since 23rd Dec as the same issue happened again - the problem has never gone away, only for say 48 hours.
We’ve taken it for a different opinion at another dealership and they are confident they’ve found the issue the other garage haven’t resolved - just let waiting for a part at the moment. I suppose we won’t know if it’s truly fixed until we’ve had it back a few days again
 
That's good to hear. Sometimes a fresh look at things can help. Try and find out what parts they replace. If it were mine I would have a general look over/under it to see what's been replaced, out of curiosity.
 
Thought I’d give you an update on the situation (thanks so much for everyone’s comments btw!)
It went for a second opinion on 23rd December - have to say this dealership just seemed a lot more helpful straight away.
Within a few hours they could see the issue (other garage kept making out there was nothing wrong until it actually arrived on the recovery truck)
They found the variable air inlet valve was faulty and this was likely causing the issue. This was the first time this part had been mentioned

This part is on back order and so at the moment the car is still at the dealership and we have a loan car, there is no date yet for when the part will come in

However feeling a lot better by how the car is now being looked at, but we won’t know if this is actually the issue until it’s replaced

on the positive side this dealership have assured us the vehicle will not be leaving there until we are completely satisfied the car is fixed

maybe we are finally getting somewhere at last!

Hi, I realised I hadn’t posted the outcome…

we no longer own the vehicle, it went from bad to worse… we part ex’d it at the dealership where we had the second opinion - so glad to be out of the situation now!
We didn’t get a great valuation, but that was to be expected .feel awful Someone will eventually end up with that vehicle and be in the same situation, but not much else we could have done and the dealership knew exactly what they were part ex’ing.
now got a 3litre commercial and so far so good!

Thanks so much for everyone’s suggestions - jwe actually had an independent review on the vehicle before we got rid, and it was pretty horrifying (won’t post everything on here) but the guy told us we were never to drive the vehicle again once he got out!

Very relieved to hear you are out of the problems. Both the car and the dealer had to go. In all that time and 2 engines the original dealer never found the problem.
