It's only out at last, removed diff first thing this morning had to work all the chassis bolts were tight had to work them in and out a few times with WD40 but they came out ok diff dropped it down with trolley jack, manage to get it jammed briefly needs a goog clean soaked in oil
Engine lifted out in same way as D3 with same lifting frame, although going to move rear eyes forward slightly as tight to bulkhead, lifted out similar but had to remove gearbox cooler pipes and auxiliary heater line as it goes behind shield on engine, sump was very tight on steering rack had to be careful not to hit pipes, finally got it on stands on the floor, will have a single malt and a beer or two now mate all the best guys

Been working on missis mini turns out the oil pump drive chain was impersonating timing chain death rattle so waiting for parts
Back on D4 today removed, alternator bracket, egr, and turbo and manifold finally have part number ah2q-6k682af London turbos £300 each
Unbolted torque converter and pulled off box fitted nicely under bench, motor on stand now ready for rebuild, I suspect leak is front crankshaft pulley changing belts idlers tensioner, oil pump, sump gasket and oil level sensor, plus most likely engine mounts, sort the vacuum system and replace rocker covers one is cracked hopefully not too much more Lol
Back on mini for a day or two then another quick D3 engine switch but will be doing bits at same time all the best

We have a Mini/BMW specialist at work (ex-dealer master tech) he mentioned a while ago he'd been caught out with oil pump chain rattle masquerading as timing chain rattle, that said, whilst you're in there, it makes sense to change both.

Yes mate was convinced it was timing chain ordered full oil pump chain kit comes tomorrow timing chain and tensioner were in need of change again bought a full kit already, and vanos too

timing and or oil pump rattle gone, did find small bit of timing guide in oil pump sprocket cover removed sump nothing in there or oil pump mesh new chains fitted, and all back together, changed oil and what used to be an oil filter, resisting rant, going to flush again after a run or two,
Fired up straight away, no rattles (so far) already runs better idles great
Quick tidy and D3 in and cheap run around for missis all the best

Nice one! I do find that people just 'give up' on all maintenance if they perceive there's a potentially costly problem - sometimes caused by skimping on, or just skipping maintenance.

Finished mini, bought a topdon pro diagnostic some time back worked fine to reset timing/vanos, passed mot Saturday no advisories
D3 in workshop using motor and interior, but will have a multitude of parts for sale, including boxes, all panels in black will advertise appropriately, shame but at this point needs so much work, and I need an engine quickly for my 09 as am selling but not with my motor as D4 changed plans, looking for something else for that all the best

We have a couple of 'TopDon' at work for the non core brand cars, that said, it's often quicker to use 'Don' than it is to fire up the manufacturer diagnostics

Yes pretty good tool I have artidiag pro has done everything asked so far, on several different vehicles needed it for D4 for sure would highly reccomend
Stripped out front end everything just about undone, just rad pack and pipework to remove all undone ready, waiting for a lift, alternator to remove and then its underneath going well so far just got too cold tonight all the best

Back out in workshop at last missis was taken ill after my last post and had a spell in hospital got out Christmas eve fully recovered now
Resumed yesterday exhaust and transfer box off one or two tight bolts but went fine, lifted motor out today, separated gear box, previous owner drove it for some time with two very leaking leak off connections see gearbox pics as I suspected duel mass flywheel and clutch were past their best, engine looks spot on no leaks or oil anywhere it shouldn't be not going to mess too much with this one just belts, idlers and tensioners and switch egrs as these are blanked and engine wiring loom as 09 is going in doesn't have knock sensors and obviously change the fly wheel
Bit of a break this week as mini has caramel sauce in filler cap noticed while changing plugs so head is coming off and being skimmed and rebuilt this week starting tomorrow
All the best

Mini out of workshop, just cleaned and replaced head gasket in the end seems good replaced completely cooling system fingers crossed pretty sure it had had a head gasket cure added still have stains on my hands
Had a shift around 09 fired straight up still has annoying top end rattle but runs and idles fine now outside doors
Started removing wiring harness washing out the little clasps with electrical cleaner and compressed air so as not to break any
Removed timing cover, where to start looks relatively new belt and idlers but tensioner is about to give up is spitting out material looks white in photos can wobble it with belt tension still on, belt over tension and with pin in flywheel can only get l/h pin in r/h pin its thickness out
Mark made on flywheel also out with pin in

Slight leak from r/h cam seal will.do both and change belts and other bits and Bob's needs a good clean was leaking diesel for some time when I first bought it
Wiring and egrs to remove tomorrow probably
All the best

Doing a sterling job there mate and awesome u made progress with the mini

Still amazes me how compact the TDV6 engines are and how much ancillary’s are installed

Imagine it’s a dream working in them outside the vehicle instead of struggling inside the engine bay

One saving grace is having an area that off the public roadway so knowonee to bother u , or nosy neighbours 🤣

Keep up the great work my friend and thks again for sharing the project as find these so interesting

Yes nice and easy to do on a stand, really enjoy it cleaned up timing area and sorted leak hopefully
Waiting for tensioner bolt forgot to order
Been a bit distracted by something else Lol
Thanks for your kind words, chairs still here

Been a bit distracted over last day or two bought another project Discovery sport run sweet has gearbox overheating issue, tail gate not closing issue well fully anyway, brakes started to get hot last night so stopped and got my mate to collect me in his truck apart from gearbox passenger head light has water in dont know if this can be sorted?
Parts cannon fired on brakes working on it in the drive so working back on 09 if it rains

Is it the rear brakes getting hot

Hi mate just got in from work all the brakes got hot fronts were probably hottest but stopped before too extreme free as a bird now, discs are fairly shot so will replace all and pads on order from maltings ebc pads, been informed that the sliders will seize without use so will check it all over the weekend any advice gratefully recieved as electrical calipers are new to me, apparently need to put them in service mode or indeed see if they operate me old mate sent me detailed workshop manuals
Then just the tailgate to fix latch and struts are knackered and the tailgate is over to one side going to remove the struts tomorrow and try to centralize it may have bent hinges
Fired up this morning drove fine gearbox works fine once I can get it mobile will start on box oil check and change all the best
