I have been having a look through your forum for a few days now and some great advice and tips there, I hope I can get some advice from owners.

I have owned Suzuki Grand Vitara's since 2004 (first an XL7 2.0TD 7 seater for 4 years, then a GV1600 for the last 4 years). I changed to the GV1600 as we though we did not need the extra space and used the difference in cash to buy a motorbike (Pan European).

Over the last couple of years we have got into camping and now need the extra space and this is where you lot come in (so to speak).

I had spotted a Discovery 300tdi(auto) and a Range Rover P38 (4.0 with LPG) and at first sight the Disco looks the better option as the parts seem far cheaper than my current Suzuki ...... BUT that RR looks very nice .

Your opinions on this, as you are the ones that already know these things through experience would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Keith

The P38 will be forever broken down at the side of the road and the Disco will rot away to nothing. the choice is yours.

You do need to keep on top of the tin worm in a disco alright. Our local Land Rover GURU at Ballysimon motorworks in Mallow, only hatess two vehicles in all the world, any p38 and the freelander.
Outside of that I reckon you'll be grand so!

No not gone, but the garage selling both the Disco 300tdi and the Range Rover have sold them both.

Keep looking, but of the 2 you mentioned, if they were in similar condition I would have gone for the Disco. More reliable, and if well looked after, many have managed to keep rusr under control. But as others have said, condition, rather than registration is farmore important. Check it over well for rust, and rust and rust.

Thanks for the info.

Tazz/ Basher, I have heard some say the clutch on the Disco 1 is a weak point on them, does the Auto box give less problems?

get a disco.... both manual and auto`s can have their ups and downs :) just make sure you get a good test drive 1st and as mentioned look out for the rust.
