Last night the clutch on my 99 safari dropped to the floor and didn't return, I checked fluid, all OK, I've removed slave cylinder today and the push rod is within the bell housing. Is it supposed to be proud of the housing? If so does it look like the fork has bent/broke?

sounds like it ,rod should protrude

It was the fork after all. Ball had gone through on the pivot, after a lot of wriggling and manoeuvring the bell housing went back in.
