Hello, I am at my wits end, went on Holiday to the New Forest for a week with my family, All was well until the last day when we went to come home.

My problem was that the only alarm Fob that I had for my 1995 300tdi single button fob, fell apart with the alarm and immob active.

Therefore I could'nt deactivate the alarm and mr nice RAC man came out and didnt even take one look at it before calling for recovery. It was very nice getting a free recovery to take me home the 250miles saving me loads on fuel costs but I am now stuck with a Dead Disco.

I do have a spare fob now but cant seem to Program it using the instructions I have found on the web, does the programming of a new fob need to be done when the alarm is deactivated or should it work anyway??

Any advice on my next step would be great.

Thanks

I sympathise with your predicament but, hopefully, all is not lost.

If you know the emergency key access code (which should be amongst your vehicle documentation somewhere) then you can cancel the engine immobiliser using the key. The procedure is in the owners handbook. Once you've done that then you should be able to open the doors with the key and start the engine.

Another alternative, seeing you have a spare fob, is to synchronise the fob with the system. This is done by repeatedly pressing the lock button four times whilst within range of the vehicle.

HTH :)

Disco Joe,

The spare fob I bought off ebay and it wasnt a spare for my vehicle, also I dont have the Emergency code as I believe the single button fob Discos didnt have one, it isnt mentioned anywhere in my handbook.

Thanks

Although my handbook shows the 2-button fob I'm pretty certain that the single button variety has an EKA code too. Even so, provided the spare fob you bought was from a UK based vehicle it should still transmit on the correct frequency with a small number of preset variations and be recognised by the ECU eventually.

Have you spoken to your local dealer about this yet? I bet their service department knows how it's done ;)

The only way I can find is to remove the Alarm ECU and send both it and the Spare fob to Remote Key, a company I found on the web and they will progrm the two together, they do however sell Emergency bypass plugs to get you up and running all be it without alarm, immob or central locking but at least now I can drive it whilst the ECU is getting reprogrammed.
My local service centre said it couldnt be done be plugging it into there diagnostics machine, if it had been the two button type it would have been fine to do.

Ah well getting there slowly.

Cheers
