I have a discovery 3 auto 2006 and I have just done a service on it which includes Oil change (engine) oil filter, air filter , cambelt water pump and a gearbox oil change . I done a gearbox oil change because I got a shuddering at two thousand revs which has now stopped the shuddering. What I would like to ask is .. I am now getting a clunk when I first start to drive the car after it standing over night and this happens between first and second gear . It doesn't happen any other time of the day even if it's left for 4 or so hours as it drives fine with no clunks .. Could someone please advise me what to do if anything ..thank you

The Shuddering was more than likely the Torque converter Lockup clutch as the box locks up in every gear, 'tis a known issue if the oil degrades to a good degree or the level becomes low, usually through a leaking TCM sleeve.

Rough gear shifts can either be "lurches" which are common in 6hp26 circles, look in the Range Rover Techie section for my Thread on the HP26, that shows the symptoms.

another point it the Valvebody solenoids which can become tired especially on a well used 26..

Usually the gears flare though with that issue.

Gearbox oil at correct temp for level check?

Disco3 forum and search california stop mod, needs IID tool.

Have you a diag tool?
If so can reset adaptations for the gearbox and also for the tfer box

Thanks Henry .. I'm not mechanically minded but is there a fix for this issue? like I say it only happens when I first start the car when left over night like as if the hand break was stuck as for the rest of the day in use the gears are really smooth and not rough at all ..

Hi .. No I don't have one of those diag tools as I wouldn't no how to use one if I had it lol .. like I said I have only had the gearbox oil changed just before Christmas and it wasn't doing it then . So do I need to find someone that can reset this problem ?

Possibly, but if the fault wasnt there before I would be checking the oil level first as its free and easy.
Very sensitive to oil level, to low or high can cause them to act weird.
