Hi,

I was driving my d3 the other day and all of a sudden all the warning lights came on the dash, so i pulled over to the hard shoulder and switched the d3 off. I then was unable to start the d3. I managed to get hold of a new battery and installed it on the hard shoulder. The d3 started up fine! I then drove the vehicle about 20mins stopped at the destination then about 20min later tried to start again and no luck. The battery was flat! tried to jump start the d3 with a landrover defender and was unable to do so, ignition would come on and then just a click and week starting sound, the jump leads got too hot to continue so was towed back to my address.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this issue? or should i get a can of petrol and end it now!hehe

Thanks

Dead alternator can cause quite high extra load ... or there's a short to earth on the circuit... once the battery died while driving the cause should be eliminated before fitting other battery or forcing power to the circuit cos you can ruin it worst than it was...fix it first then try to start it again

Only fit the Denso alternator plenty of stories out there of the cheap ones causing mayhem.

Certainly a charging issue. These D3's need full power to start. Having a D3 on the ramps for 3 to 4 hours with the boot open will kill a battery.

that's good to know ref the boot open, i always thought the interior lights turned off after a while to save on the battery

was one of the first things i done was to buy a new battery, i certainly could tell the difference and also bought one of the cheap cig lighter plug in volt monitors , surprisingly accurate

Hi,

Thanks for all the replys, i bypassed the alternator today and the vehicle started with no warning lights, so have ordered a new alternator.
