Hi. We have a discovery 3. A couple of months ago we went to go out (on a very cold morning) and it wouldn't start. Apart from that it was running ok. We got a mechanic out who attempted to change the glow plugs but said he replaced 3 but the rest were going to snap. He also changed the fuel filter. However, when we took it out after this it was running really rough - my husband says it feels like it's 'missing'. When sat in the car it feels like it's jolting and holding back. This is when the engine is warm or cold doesn't make any difference really. Does anybody have any idea what this could be?

Hi, can you see any soot from around the new glow plugs or around them in general?

Has he disturbed any of the injectors or MAF while he was under there?

Have you wriggled any of the wires with the engine running to see if it is a loosened plug connector at all?

My instant thought was a snapped crank but when you said that it was directly after the mechanic had attacked the glow plugs I am erring away from that but don't rule that out.

@dieseldog69 , read quite a bit ref the glow plugs and seen reports they snap very easy

will indeed req a diagnostic reader to be plugged in, inc seeing what the injector live data is

op has asked on the D3 forum so should get answers there

Has it been misfuelled? Is it very smoky, quite possibly an egr valve faulty ( dreadful things )

hi mate

indeed they are , lol,

as a side note have u blanked ur egrs off plse

i done mine but removed the pipes, so now with this new mot rules coming up got to put them back, but will leave the blanks in situ

have u seen these egr blanks with holes drilled in them, see some companies claiming it prevents the MIL light coming on

On the d 3, we changed them when they went, and they were no more trouble, with new rules have left them alone on d 4, plus it still in warranty
Even had to fit a new egr valves on a john Deere tractor last autumn, just troublesome stuff we don’t need ! ffs

indeed i blanked mine before they failed lol , did buy 2 x 3mm stainless steel blanks so there a lot thinner than the current blanks i have , so in theory won’t be able to be spotted on the mot , along with some black high temp sealant

will be a bit of a pain for landy members whove removed there entire egr and now got to refit them, ie freelander td4 , some of the fenders etc

Some cars a lot easier to blank than others, sounds like you d3 owners are lucky. I had an Astra and it used to stick open, flooding the engine with exhaust gases when slowing to a junction etc so it would stall. I took it off, made a new gasket for it using the old as a template, using some 2mm Ali but 'forgot' to cut out the hole for the gas to pass through. No more issues again and wasn't noticeable that I had done it.
My scenic dci was more troublesome, no way at all around it other than cleaning it every 3 months whether it needed it or not. I often considered connecting a spare valve to the wiring so the ecu would think all was well but never got round to it.
