Hi all,
I am selling my P38 and thinking along the disco 3 line.
There seems to be a fair few around at the 10k mark with good history and reasonable mileage.
My question to the disco experts are:
1. When should all of the bets have been changed? (Explanation of all the belts would be amazing!)
2. This EGR valve problem?!?!?
3. The turbos, are they as bad as I am led to believe? I have googled these questions and frankly it's like googling a headache and deducing that you have a brain tumour.
I am looking next weekend at a 2008 HSE 2.7 with 111,000 for £9500 full service but no recipts to check exactly what has been completed.
Many thanks all
Charles.

hi

belts should be changed 105,000 miles or 7 x years

if u blank egr from 2007 they need a software patch to stop the engine light coming on

turbo actuator arms stick ,

very important to check

suspension works in all levels, access normal and off road height, symbol goes out in instrument panel at each level

do a pre hpi online check

mot list online , to see what's been done in the past

check sills for any signs of rust

drive along at tickover, somewhere quiet with no other traffic around , dab the brakes and listen out for knocks, if u hear a knock can be wishbone bushes

press every button, check info screen in the middle ,

general failures are , wish bones, compressor , sill area behind plastic covers , oil pump casing

really need one with service history

hope that helps a little bit, ask away and plenty on here to help

others will i imagine be along of things i've missed

forgot to add

also if it's an auto

get it on a hill, stop, in drive take ur foot off the brake pedal it should not roll back

look at the rev counter on tick over , if u see fluctuation, it's signs of the torque converter failing

check electronic parking brake

back brake pipes

spare wheel is there

signs of any rust around the towbar

if u do buy one , invest in a diagnostic , iid around £420 , will pay for itself very quickly

I would say the ONE and only thing that matters on an 07/08 model is has the oil pump been changed? if not either budget for it or walk away, I have read the later models 08 onwards supposedly didnt suffer from pump failure but have also read of 08 doing the same thing, so take nothing for granted.
07 on models cant have just cheapo egr blank kit they also needs an ecu flash/patch, up to and incl 06 models its much easier.

I like mine but the hesitation when slowing down at a roundabout and accelerating again is really fcuking annoying, apparently a remap is meant to sort this out once and for all.
Like all land rovers theres **** loads to go wrong, but if you do some research and act on what you learn they are really great cars, best of all as they look so unassuming nobody notices them so if you are into kidnapping/murder this is the car for you:D

Belts can be done at home I did mine on the driveway, budget for new fan belt and both the tensioners/idlers as well.

Easy to service dont use cheap fuel filters

Cam belt pic, it looks complicated but its simple I would say easier than tdi etc, only tools needed is fan spanners.

Oil pump pic, this is the current new style pump, the threaded hole is where the belt tensioner bolts to, on the older deign oil pump this is to fragile and cracks when the bolt is tightened and soon after the mount breaks losing belt tension and all hell breaks loose!
