There are plenty of good videos online that describe how to remove the door card and replace the actuator & lots of discussion about how to release temperamental locking mechanisms [I've linked the two that I found most useful below].

Sadly, mine had failed in the closed position and I couldn't open the door. However - it is possible to access the locking arm from inside the car [and remove the door card] with the door in the closed position.

1. Remove door card, speaker, unclip window and remove window winding mechanism.
2. With small fingers, follow the internal wire and feel for the white lever - this needs to be pushed into the up position - photo below.
3. Pull on the internal handle wire to release the door.

Photos below show actuator and point to the white lever.
