Our 200 TDI has a fairly impressive water leak in the front driver's side footwell.

It's not coolant, so I have discounted the heater matrix being to blame. Before I start stripping things a few pointers would be appreciated!

In tonight's rain (I was changing a blown bulb in the dashboard) I could clearly hear water dripping from somewhere at the back of the righthand back of the dash. It was too dark to see anything though.

Does water leak past the heater's air intake plenium at the base of the windscreen or through the windscreen seal...or both? I can see both have been bodged with mastic in the past.

To be honest it seems to be coming in behind the trim on the RHS side of the footwell...are there any holes at the back of the inner wing it could get through?

Cheers!

Malcolm

mine leaked through the windscreen seal Carefully look around it for any cracks.
I solved mine with good old sealant. but the rubbers are around £100 on ebay.
Try running a hose over it and look for the leaks.

could try looking on the inner wing area of bulkhead like this.

Mines a 300 tdi but it may help. I used a watering can and put some food colouring in it to make it easier to see

If you carefully flick some white flower up under the dash the water will leave a track in it and dries to leave a nice 'cast' for you to follow.

Referring to the photos above if you take out the plastic cover on the right side of the drivers footwell would you see any corrosion holes without taking the wing off ? I say this as i have the same problem wihen it rains the footwell gets soaking wet...many thanks

Thanks for confirming that.Yep carpet & soundproofing already pulled back trying to dry it out.Windscreen rubber looks okay as well.I'll have to get inside & get someone to put the hose over her to try & see where the water is coming from.....
