I want to remove the side windscreen trims any tips please ?
I want to get some sealant up into the outside corner where the roof is welded onto the uprights.
After many months trying to stop water leaking into my discovery I have now discovered that its not coming in through the sun roof as I thought but through the windscreen bonding.
Andy from Surrey sunroofs removed and rebonded my sun roofs as I thought this is where the water was coming from and after putting it all back together it rained and water still came in.
When I braked I would get water shoot over the front of the head lining onto my lap.
So the head lining was taken out again and left out.
This time when it rained I had water dripped out from the right hand corner of the windscreen between the bonding and the metal surround.
So all of the problems have been caused by a known fault on the roof welding to the uprights.
Four years ago I had the screen replaced and 4 months later had to have it removed and re-bonded and I have had a small leak which I put down to the sun roofs ever since.
This leak has gradually got worse and I am determined to cure it once and for all.

Hi
Just done this on mine, open the door and look at the a pillar and you will see 3 or 4 plastic 'rivets' you have to knock the centers in then prize the rivet out.
Getting the trim back on is another matter though, I'm still trying to refit mine with no success .
How was Andy's work as I'm thinking of getting him to do my sunroofs ?

REF the 3 trim fasteners, if you have new ones then great, if not instead of the knocking the centres into oblivion, what you can do is drill a tiny hole down the centre of them, then insert a small self tapping screw a few turns, then use some pliers to pull the centres out, that way you can re-use them time and time again.

As far as removing the trims, remove those 3 fastners on the A pillar, then with the door half open and standing at the wing, pull the trim towards you by grabbing the edge thats down the windscreen.

It's likely some or all of the clips may stay on the car, take NOTE of which way they are fitted, then remove them from the car and place them back on the trim.

Re-fitting the trims is a little more of a "fight", but get it "in postion" where the 3 fasteners down the A pillar go also ensuring its correct at the bottom near the bonnet corner, then push the trim over to the centre of the car, more force is required at the bottom, then when its nearly there, a firm wack with the hand and it will clip into place.

Learnt this after watching 2 diff windscreen compaines struggle with them for ages by trying to fit the trims with the clips on the car, then thinking to myself, surely there was not someone on the production line struggling to fit these dam things, there must be an easier way, hence fitting clips to the trim then a firm wack and they go on quite well. it gets easier each time you do it.

Hi all,
Thanks for the tips re the side windscreen finisher.
Andy of Surrey Sunroofs could not have been more helpful.
He did an excellent job on the sunroofs, I highly recommend him.

For all those struggling as I did to refit the A pillar trims, here is the easy way:
There are 3 metal spring clips that hold the trim to the a pillar. When you remove the trim these will probably remain attached to the A pillar. Remove them and refit them to the lugs inside the trim first, being careful to note the correct orientation. Then fit the trim, feeding the bottom edge in first and them making sure that the 3 clip holes align inside the door opening. Then stretch the trim over the a pillar locating the metal spring clip back onto the A pillar seam where it came off - start with the bottom one. I found it easiest to stand in the open door and look down from above to stretch the middle and upper clips over the seam in that order. A firm slap with the hand will lock the clips to the seam. Finally push in new (or saved) plastic clips inside the door opening. Once I got this right each side takes about 2 mins.

Mine came back from the windscreen dudes who have managed to snap all the plastic fittings. Unaware of this till I was cleaning out the drains that run down the windscreen looking for the famous discovery water leak? I need to find out we're to get to new ones. As I live in New Zealand no joy here.. Any one got an idea for me were to get a pair for a 2004 disco. Also the scuttle has warped letting water in behind it and the window then it's getting blown down into the heater inlet. Wet feet for the passenger... Ah the joys of land rovers....

Can any one recommend a landrover parts company I could use to ship parts to nz. Like replacement A pillars which have been broken buy the previous owner. And a new scuttle which has been warped buy the nz sun....

Will try the company that posted trim video Atlantic British for parts....

I just removed my A-pillar exterior trim following the good advice in the Atlantic British video, unfortunately it was not so easy.
It seems the fitter who installed my 'screen about two years ago used the screen bonding to hold on the trim. Effective, yes, but a pig to remove !
Now is it possible to remove the top and bottom trim ? not sure about lower bit but top rail appears part of glass ?
Also corner trim above windscreen, any one done this without breaking ?
Cheers

Why are you removing? Just peel it back bit at a time and add sealant if that what your doing. No need to remove it

I could probably do that with top trim, but there appears to be corrosion at the bottom corners where it disappears under the plastic.
Do you think it would work if I sealed around top corner trim pieces rather than removing them, they look a bit brittle ?

These parts are generally widely available from the UK but only genuine except for the rivets. For the part numbers, take a look in here -

Just Google the part but you will need to match the VIN as there are several variants.

I want to remove the side windscreen trims any tips please ?

When I found water in the footwell, I took every advice I found online but could not resolve the problem. Ultimately, I decided to remove the windscreen finishers and the intake plenum and found a small rusty hole in the water channel next to the windscreen, right at the bottom. I got it rust treated (even from underneath) and fixed but since I had full access to the plenum, I got the entire area sealed as water was getting trapped in there and corrosion was inevitable. What I'm trying to say is that if everything else failed and you plan to remove the side finishers, you might as well go the extra mile and at least, have the opportunity to inspect underneath the intake plenum. The plenum cover is straightforward to remove and all parts are reusable. The side finishers can be removed quite easily if you follow the Atlantic British video. Alternatively, once you take out the rivets, just grab the front section of the finisher and pull forward and sideways and it will come off without damage. You will need to replace the rivets but the clips should be reusable although I replaced them with new ones as well.

I haven't got round to removing plenum yet but I can see small rust hole exactly where you describe.
I have run 'Captain Tolleys Creeping Crack Cure' along the top of w'screen so hoping that does cure any leaks along the top.
We will defeat the leak ;)

I found the water channels next to the windscreen partially blocked with debris that stayed moist and hence the rust. Luckily I caught things at an early stage and so the damage was minimal, except for the carpet in the footwell that took nearly a week to get completely dry. I sealed off everything including around the windscreen and underneath the rubber seals attached to the plenum and the side finishers. And thanks for the tip re. Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack. Never heard of it before but will get one and keep it for a rainy day ;)
