I've just ordered a set of 18" alloys for my Discovery 2. We use the car 80% road, the rest of the time in the field and towing a horse box. Can anyone recommend a suitable tyre for all round performance? Cheers
check out 4x4 Tyres :: The Ultimate 4x4 Tyre Website :: just choose your the tyre to fit the alloy as in 15" etc then click sizes and it goes through all ranges of prices and makes plus theres a little bar to the right of the pic of the tyre which shows you what they are best suited for e.g if there is more grey and sandy colour its meant more for on road use and vice versa plus its free delivery over £100 i think and it shouldnt tke too long for them to get to you as they are located right on the m1 a1 check it out might save you some money and will help you out and its got the nifty little on road off raod bar gauge thing, good luck
From what I have learnt so far the more off-road oriented tyre for 18'' wheels (athough it is a road biased tyre) is the General AT Grabler. Available for 255 width, which fits nicely 18'' wheels. Which I happen to have too.
Apparently BFGoodrich does not offer anything decent for 18'' wheels. No AT for 18''. This was my first choice. No more.
I have been told about Khumo tyres, but don´t know anyone that used them.
Currently I wear 235 Pirelly Scorpion on 18''. But wear down very quickly if taken mildly off-road. I would not recommend them unless you would stay on tarmac all the time...
I know this far on tyres for 18'' wheels.
If anyone can recommend any other make or model for 50%-50% use I would appreciate. What seems to be the norm is that tyres for 18'' wheels offer quite poor latteral protection. And thus suffer a lot with rocks or gravel.
Dont know if your on UK or Spanish plates. Watch out for the correct speed rate if your on Spanish or intend to change. ITV will bounce it if they are not manifacturers speed rate.
General Grabber AT2 will be the best choice for your car and wheel size , a true All terrain tyre . They perform very well off road , and very well on the road and are great in the winter .
