Front hub tutorial here http://www.discovery2.co.uk/fronthub.html says the front is 32 mm but if I remember correctly the replacement hub nut I bought was a different size. You will need a big breaker bar to undo it, I ended up buying a 3/4 drive socket set. Not sure if the rear is the same as I haven't had to do mine (famous last words)

Headtester,

Do you remember what size it was?
Having looked at the nuts available on fleabay, it appears if you look closely that you can see the nut size is slightly different.

Cheers

Mine are 32mm front and rear, breaker bar with a length of scaffold bar helps. Retighten until you are red in the face !

Stake nuts are CDU1534L and front and rear are all 32mm (if you have and use the correct nuts, which I'd say is likely!)
I bought a big torque wrench second hand on eBay. Used it 5 times now so paid for itself in money saved on diy hub changes!

Eg http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-CDU1534L

Very strange why after market are so much bigger (36mm)

Big torque wrench, Got that covered.

Now have to order the 32mm socket 6 sided and a short extension.

Checked the rear and they are 32mm on mine so need to get a 3/4 socket.
Already have a 3/4 bar and scaffold pole. and at 17 stone it will be quite tight.
Thanks for the help guys.

That's not a bad price for the kit.
I already have a good selection of tools but not had much reason to buy a 3/4 kit.
But you can never have too many tools.

For information and delectation,

I checked mine at the weekend , they are all 32mm on the vehicle currently.

BUT:

Just had a reply from bearmach, tech service.
Question:

Can you please tell me the socket size needed for the Discovery 2 hub nut , I believe it is CDU1534L . Thanks

Answer:

I believe it is 36mm

Maybe something to keep in mind. It would appear as discussed before, there are at least two different sizes, 32mm which are the original size and 36mm which are aftermarket.

Cheers

Put a little heat on the nut, this will help break the Loctite!! I always use 6 sided sockets on tight stuff the 12 point sockets can chew the corners
