Parrot of Doom

Hi there

I'm selling what was my dad's Disco (he died earlier this month) on my mother's behalf, but I have a few questions about minor jobs I think need doing.

1) Instrument binnacle lighting - there's a bulb out near the fuel gauge, and the digital odometer etc isn't backlit

2) Rear passenger windows - neither of them drop, at the console, or on the doors. The child lock button doesn't click, it just pushes in and pops back up. Possibly a new button?

3) Engine warmup - the engine seems to take a long time to warm up, in these temperatures as long as 25 minutes. I don't know if this is a temperature gauge problem or what, but the car has climate control and that sometimes blows pretty cold air out, when it should be waiting for warm air first. Possibly needs a new thermostat on the engine?

Last but not least, I have the car up for sale in one location at the moment, but I'm not quite sure about its value. I wonder if anyone could offer opinions as to what its worth? I know people will think I'm joining up to try and get more interest, but genuinely, this isn't my car, and my mum wants rid of it asap.

Well firstly condolences to you and your family for your loss.

As far as the Disco is concerned I think you have priced it spot on for the age and mileage. The isues you mention are not major so as you have been honest enough to point them out in the advert I would let the new owner sort them out. Most Landie buyers are enthusiasts and 'expect' to have jobs to do.

Car could easily take 25 mins to warm up if idling and even 15 mins of decent driving.

Good luck with the sale.

Oh another question, how exactly do I release the two small rear passenger seats from their locked (seated) position? I have one down, but I can't get it unclamped from the floor. There's a lever on the side but maybe the mechanism has stuck? I've left the other one folded up in case that one sticks too.

Hi Condolences

to lift seat up on mine on the bottom of the seat is a black bar twist it like a motorbike accelerator and that should release.

The leaver on side is tilt the back of seat so it folds down

hope thats correct ain't used my rear seats for a while
mines a 2000 TD5
regards
Rob

if the grab handle is stiff to turn thers a small black strap (like seatbelt)running from it pull that and should release the seat. lift and push to side the side nearsest side of car goes up middle part goes across and ends up at the bottom.

Check this site out for rear seat problem/cure. If they are not used they seize up. Good site that.

It is in "Faults and fixes" then "7 seats won't unfold"

Sorry to hear about your loss.
The instrument lights are easy to repace. Just undo the two posi screws at the base of the binnacle (near the steering column) then remove the trim. Look down both sides of the binnacle and you will see one screw on each side, near the top. Remove these and the whole binnacle comes away. Turn it over to reveal the plastic bases of the lamps. They just twist out of the PCB. Renew the lamps and put it all back together.

Good luck with the sale.

could any one help i have a discovery td5 and all of a sudden the traction control abs and hill descent lights have come on the dashboard any ideas thanks
I had this happen to a TD5 Commercial that was in for a service-thought what now? Noticed on a rear lamps check that the lens & bulb itself were full of rainwater!! replaced the bulbs, cleaned everything, lo & behold problem solved! Prob just lucky, but if it helps .......

Hi again

I HPI'd the vehicle and there's a mileage discrepancy:

19-Nov-2002 Manufacturer 65,000 65,000
02-Apr-2004 Manufacturer 134,997 134,997
26-May-2005 DVLA 62,000 62,000
08-Jul-2005 Manufacturer 62,285 62,285
21-Apr-2006 NMR 52,000 52,000
21-Apr-2006 NMR 62,000 62,000
22-Nov-2007 NMR 83,000 83,000
04-Dec-2007 NMR 83,000 83,000
04-Dec-2007 NMR 83,475 83,475
29-Dec-2010 NMR 92,000 92,000

The 52,000-62,000 part is obviously a mistake, but clearly between 2004 and 2005 its lost 70-odd thousand, and its also probably been pruned a bit between 2005 and 2006. The last few results I'm not concerned about, that's when my dad bought it and he hardly drove it because of his illness. I'm guessing its true mileage is about 170,000. How would that reflect on its value? I've updated its advert, and knocked the price down by a grand.

Probably a faulty ACU unit. Mine did the same. They cost about £450 and are easy to fit. They sit under the bonnet top right with hydrolic pipes coming out of them.

It's more likely (and much cheaper to fix) to be the electrical connections. Look here. If you're not a d2 boys club member then I'd suggest you join.
