Hi there
When i bought my 01 D2 it came with a spare uncut key stamped Land rover, the other key that i have been using has now fell apart, I have had to repair it with a bit from a pen a bit of rubber that i cut from the dash pad and several Mr bump plasters.
I need to get the spare key sorted but have been told by a local L/R garage that i need a 17 digit code that would come with the vehicle from new, so no chance of that then.
Main dealer can't (or wont) help with code but will sell me a new cut key for £180+vat plus another £60 to code it.
Any ideas please ???, I have been told that the code might be inside the key but cannot figure out how to open it.
Thank you Bill

Just make sure it's NOT for a Rover 75 car. They don't have a piece of elecrtikery inside like the D2.

The 6 digit code is the one in this ket begining 2A. The longer one is on the label. Nanocom uses the 6 digits.
HTH,
Griff

Thanks Griff.
Is there any way i can tell the difference between the car one and the Disco one ???, or do i just have to trust the seller.
Thanks Bill

Well short and to the point reply, but that clears that up then, thanks
Problem I'm having is finding one in the uk with code, can get one from china with code or from uk without code, rock and hard place spring to mind, need to find out if i can use one from a "breaker" and get it recoded ???

I got .mine from the bay USA, but they came from China.Although advertised in the USA. Delivery was not bad from memory about 7 days.
Found this one see below ...any good for you ?has code for Nanocom... assume you have a Nanocom or access to one?
The Chinese keys take a few attempts to programme with Nanocom, in my case 4 or 5, but not long very quick in total time.Real JLR ones even old one are quicker.I think the case shell is thicker on the Chinese ones.

When you get a key and connect up to Nanocom to link up the new key, Nanocom will give you all the codes of keys assigned to your Disco. So you can write them down and then work out the code for the broken key you have by trying to connect it.Nano will tell you if its the wrong key code. Then simply buy a case and you have two keys.

Bill,
if you can get another Disco owner to lend you a key you can use this to access the system on your Discovery, part of the programme once you get in is a list of existing keys which i mentioned above. As above write them down and your good to go.
So you can find your old keys code.

I missed your question you can use a key from breaker as long as its working and most do....

Do you have a Nanocom?..if not probably someone on here will be kind who lives near you and do the Nanocom stuff, if not the" D2boys club" have a register of people willing to help all over the UK and they will help I am sure. You have to join its free.
I am part of this register.

Hi Westone
Thanks for your help, I don't have a nanocom but a local independent Landrover garage has one, but i am not sure he has ever done what i need, I'm pretty sure i can get a working key from a local breaker to get recoded now you have explained how to do it.
Also my original key still works although held together with spit and string so i might be able to get the code from that with a nanocom to put in the other uncut key i have.
I will also post on here to see if anyone is local to me who can help and if not will check out the D2boys club who i must admit i have never heard of.
Bill.:)

With a key from a breaker it should be quite quick and easy,Its more tricky with a copy key.Sometimes they take a few attempts. But you will get the key on the system in the end. Make sure the battery is good in the key.

Hi
Well at the moment i have taken the circuit board and key blade from the broken key and fitted it all in the new key case using what i was shown on here, so now i have one good working key.
Also local L/R breaker has some keys for me to pick up so i will get my blank blade cut and then try to find someone local to me to reprogram it.
Thank you for all the help and links.
Back soon with more problem's :).

There is a video on youtube that shows how it is done when using a nanocom, very easy to do.

Cheers
