Hi Folks,

New to this and land rover. I have a Discovery 2 and the Driver side front and rear windows will not work but passenger side does.

When pressing the switch you can hear a relay or something clicking behind the dash but nothing at any of the window motors!

Tried swaping the switches around and still no joy so the fault seems to be between the switch relay and the window motors.

Anyone any ideas????
 
Unfortunately there are not much common things between the front and rear windows except an earth point... remove the switches and use a multimeter to see if there is continuity across body and the black wires... according to the result i'll tell you more
 
I have had the problem where the driver's side window started playing up, not winding. I traced it to a broken wire in the little tube grommet between the door and the door pillar.
On the Disco 2, the front windows are triggered through the BCU so that features such as the "one touch" system can work but the rear windows are directly driven from the switches. Don't forget the little safety switch in the middle of the switch plate.

Ok will give that a try this evening hopefully and get back to you.

I was thinking it was the electric window brain so the fact that the rear for isn't working would tell me other wise??

As @sierrafery has already said, there's very little in common between the front and rear window circuits, other than the possibility of an earth connection, such as at the common earth connection 0552 (K108).

So, looking at the circuits, I would say that you have two separate faults. It's not unknown and usually happens just to lead you up the garden path. Coincidence can sometimes work like that.

My 2004 Disco 2 has decided to have this same problem with the drivers window going inop intermittently.
I have replaced the mechanism as the Teflon rollers were broken. I was hoping that it had fixed the problem but it hasn't. Looks like I will have to open up the wiring loom at the door and look for damaged wires as the motor tests fine as does the rest of the system at the switches.
The left front and both rear windows work perfectly every time so it is something only with the right front wiring. Any additional advice would be appreciated.
 
I eventually got around to stripping the door card off the Drivers door and checking the wiring for damage. The problem with the window not working had gone from intermittent to not operating at all so I needed to get it sorted out. I disconnected all the electrical plugs from inside the door so I had some slack on the wiring loom and then slid the rubber tube surrounding the loom between the door and the body towards the body. The two wires for the window operation are thicker than the others in the loom and seemed all in order from that end. When I slid the rubber tube / boot towards the door I found the one wire was completely broken off and the other one was close to completely coming apart too. 10 minutes later they were both repaired with new splice crimp connectors, covered with heat-shrink and the system was working perfectly.
Thanks for the suggestion of checking the wiring in the door hinge area as this would most likely been one of the last places my trouble-shooting would have taken me.
 
To be fair, anywhere where a wire has to flex regularly and could possibly rub against anything solid is likely to be a problem area. So wires passing through boot openings connected to the boot lid, door areas etc, are likely suspects.
I have even come across door areas where, at the factory, the loom protection grommets were not properly fitted, so the poor old wires had no chance, (D1 i think).
