(sorry if this is in the wrong bit im new here!)

basically i have a odd problem that has happened today, i cant find anything similar online to diagnose what it could be!

the land rover stays up on its air bags fine over night etc, we came to it this morning, opened the very rear door (boot/tailgate) to let the dog in, all of a sudden the air completely released from the bags, sat the car on the floor and now it wont go back up and ive got the solid SLS light on the dash! theres no compressor noise, ive checked all relays and fuses and swapped them about to no avail...

what could just stop the compressor from working when its been fine and the bags cant be caput as they were up without fault!

help :(

Jack it up a bit and start the engine, should self level

I suspect level sensors

i jacked the body....from the tow ball to be honest, have i done it wrong?

No , just asking as you said it was sat on the deck. Sounds like you did it right, it may be your compressor has timed out.

You can get some adapters to allow the bags to be pumped up manually to get you out of the doodah, But it sounds like more investigation of the compressor and maybe getting it on diagnostics may be needed.

Cheers

yeah im deffo thinking its the compressor to be honest, i just cant understand how its been fine....went out today, opened the door, and the air just escaped and now the compressor wont kick in! its like something is stopping the compressor from working.

Air bags can fail either slowly or suddenly, think of a rubber tube filled with compressed air, it can develop a slow puncture or a sudden burst. The usual place for a suspension bag to fail is in a fold and in that condition it can stay inflated until it's disturbed.
If the compressor doesn't run when the vehicle is set up as @MJI has suggested, with all the doors closed, then the first thing to check would be the fuselink; this is a 30 Amp fuselink FL9 on the fuseboard under the bonnet.
If that is OK and the compressor still doesn't run then it could be "locked out" in the SLABS ECU due to the compressor duty cycle having been exceeded, in which case you're going to have to get hold of a compatible code reader to clear the logged fault codes. This could quite easily be the case if there has been a leak in an air bag and the compressor has been working hard to overcome the leak.
If you do diagnose a leaky air bag, remember it's at least good practice to change them in pairs.

Your best bet, before spending any money on guess work, would be to find someone local with a Nanocom or Hawkeye and check then clear any error codes. Check the LZIR map for anyone local to you.
Edit, looks like the closest Nanocom to you is Bennehboy in Huddersfield. If he can't help I'd be happy to pop over with my Nanocom if you cover the fuel.

thank you so much, im more than happy to cover the fuel for anyone local that fancies coming and helping, its stops my mind from wanting to beat the big old beast with a stick!

I've sent you a PM. Once diagnosed it shouldn't be too big an issue to sort.

little update,i managed to have a little look under it today and i have noticed the passenger side ride height sensor has split where the bolt goes through it to bolt it to the arm. so maybe it was moving about and giving a false reading which in turn shut the system down?

Yep, a knackered ride height sensor can do all sorts of odd things to the suspension.
At about 25 or 30 quid their fairly cheap so I'd replace both of them, if one's gone, the other one is sure to be close behind.
Many users advise that you disconnect the battery before disconnecting the sensors.

i thought as much! i assume i cant just replace them and then the car will work as it should? or do i first have to plug it on to delete the light on the dash?

You do need to disconect the battery before changing them otherwise you'll looses the height settings and need them re-calibrating. Not a difficult job for someone with Nanocom etc.

ok so another little update......im pretty sure my discovery is torturing me right now, it knows what buttons to push and its pushing them all at the minute!
so i put the car onto coils until i get air parts as i had coils ready n waiting to go on....i noticed the bags were shot! like, 1 of them looks like its been on from new! so im now starting to think its probably sent the compressor into overuse and burnt it out! (just great!) so im gonna get a pair of bags, a compressor and 2 new height sensors.. but deffo after christmas.

BUT!....changing to coils i noticed a fuel line (that goes into the filter housing) that looked a bit 'wonky' so i went to straighten it out and SNAP! ARGHHHH
so now i need to know if i can get the pipe that goes into the filter housing (metal pipe, looks like it may screw into the housing?)

this discovery will be the death of me im sure! :(

Can you post a pic of the filter housing with the broken pipe? I think you can get the brass pipes individually but someone who knows more will be able to advise.

Your air suspension parts, maybe just change the sensors and air springs then see where you are with the compressor cuz it may just have locked out as someone mentioned earlier in thread

fuel filter 1.jpg fuel filter.jpg this is whats broke :( deffo sticking with it, cant get enough of it, its a love hate relationship....i love it, it hates me!

one other thing....why dont i have a water sensor on my filter? just a round white cap, the plug is tucked away :/ no lights on the dash etc.
