Hi,

I'm off on a trip to morocco soon and want to replace parts that may fail, one of these is hoses. I've heard lots of stories of people replacing hoses only to fail shortly after and was wondering which ones people would recommend?

That's entirely your choice and money but i'm sure that will come a time when the rubber hoses will fail anyway so if i was you i'd replace them now to be on the safe side

Dont buy the cheap rubber top hose from ebay, Ive just traced a leak on mine, the fluid was travelling down the cotton reinforcing weave, supposedly encased in rubber and forming a drip where it connects with the radiator.

We did a trip across Morocco about two years ago. I had to change the turbo hoses before we went as they were leaking. I went for the blue Britpart ones and they have been fine. I also changed all the wheel bearings for Timkin ones and changed all the ball joints. The shocks were only about a year old so I made do with them. I have ProComp shocks. some folk on here knocked them but they were also fine and are still on the Defender. I hope to go again next year and will probably leave the shocks on there but carry two spare. We were in a group of five, we all said we over killed on spares and took loads of stuff we didn't need. The only breakdown we had was a front drive shaft and rear diff going on a 90. No one had a spare Diff.
The P38 had fitted Terafirma shocks and springs all round with a 2"inch lift. They discovered when they got back that a shock had broke. They also said they wouldn't bother with a 2 inch lift next time round. All that happen was they would get stuck 2 inches deeper.
The things that take the most punishment are steering, bearings ball joints and shocks. If everything else seems OK I wouldn't bother replacing them for the sake of changing them. There are plenty of places out there where you can get repairs done. Every town we went through you will find kids on bikes sticking cards of garages out there.
Next time round as well as taking currency I would take items to trade with. Any old cloths etc you have. Kids pens, paper. They love that sort of things. We pulled up in one town and some kid on a bike ran round the group trying to get socks.
Don't know if you have seen the blog Chris made of the trip. you might get some idea's

I see Oldun has already been in contact with you. He was in our group. Have you worked out a rout yet. Next time round I want to do the Atlantic side along the Plage Blanche.

Hi Mike, MrIFan has sent me some details on a route but any other advice is welcome. I've messaged Oldun also.

Oldun was our official rout planner. Would love to go with him again. Make sure you take a good shovel.

Tempted to get the Brit part fill
Replacement of hoses. My disco had down 92k so probably need them doing. Not sure how easy getting them will be when I am in Morocco!
