has anyone ever fitted a front recovery point suitable for a RTV trial to a discovery 2, without having to replace the bumper?

I haven't...and I know each disco might be different but my 2001 TD5 XS got towed up Breast High?? (I think) in the Lake District on the stock front towing eye (at my own risk, but all I have!) after the traction control took a dump and gave me the 3 amigos.

sorry if im wrong I don't know the required specs for trials ect but could you fit a steering guard with built in recovery points?

i purchased a steering guard with recovery points on only to find it did not fit a D2 with ACE and as far as i am aware they are non avaliable to fit  i dont think i can fit Jate rings as the ACE is in the way. :-(

What about something like this

PM1170 | Mantec Steering Guard for Disco 2

... then get some steel plate, maybe 8mm thickness and fabricate your own recovery points using the steering guard attachments .. or indeed just make some coming off the bumper/chassis attachment points?

Do you know if the chassis/bumper attachment points are the same for a D1 and a D2? If so I'll have a look at chopping some plate up that suits as I have a Disco 1 available .. ;)

If all else fails I went laning with a disco 2 at the weekend, he had a HD bumper with swivel recovery points, little expensive if you buy new but perfect ;)
