Hi All
I have a 2004 Discovery 2 that has a power steering leak coming from the dropper arm seal. I want to replace the seal without taking the power steering box out. Can I remove the dropper arm from underneath with a Discovery 2 dropper arm puller or a 2 tone spreader without removing the steering box.

I would imagine that that one to buy would be expensive - are there tool hire shops where you are? If not have a look on the WWW for two legged pullers etc.

These are very difficult to remove. I done my PAS box just recently......for the 5th time. It was off the car in the vice and took a hydraulic puller, heat and some hammering to get it off.
I would also say you are wasting your time renewing the seal only. It will leak again soon. If it doesn't, you are lucky.

Great link Griff.
How could I pick up that drop arm puller to do the job?
Thanks
if you get drop arm off ,remove circlip place a container underneath the box and run engine work steering and seal and washer will be blown out enough to remove easily

Its sometimes as easy to take the box off.
At least you can give the arm a good smaking with a hammer and it comes off a treat and you can properly look at the shaft and seals too.
Heavy bugger mind.

Thanks. Not looking good in getting it off then
Hope to get a hold of a heavy duty puller at the weekend and will have one more go from underneath. Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again for all your help.

We have replaced the seals but unfortunately only seem to last 12 months so we just put a recon steering box on £160 with two years guarantee

That’s sound cheap. I’m pricing around for a Discovery 2 steering box and it’s looking around the £400 mark that’s why I would RD to do the seals first

The refurbished box I just put on came from Autosteer Direct with a rechromed shaft and two year warranty. £149.99 delivered on exchange basis for your old pas box. Been on a few weeks now but time will tell if a good buy or not.
