Hey all,
After a bit of help with my 1999 discovery 2. Iv had a search and can't find the answer.
Since I bought the car before Christmas it had always ran fairly cold . It would take ages to get up to running temperature then would drop down straight away. On the plus side it never got to hot.
The other day I replaced the thermostat and whilst I was at it upgraded to silicon coolent pipes. Got it up to temperature and she was running well with no leaks.

On Tuesday did my first longer journey in it and she was happy up to 50mph but at 60 or more she started getting very hot. Slowed down and she cooled down. Got to my destination and once cool checked the water and header tank was empty . Filled up and drove home the following day. Same thing happened.
I have checked all the hoses and their are no kinks or obvious leaks.
Their was a tiny about of water evidence near the overflow of the header tank.
The landy has a cover over the winch which also restricts airflow through the radiator but I removed this on the way Home and it made no difference.

Possibly unrelated but just found out the passenger footwell is damp.

Once the rain had stopped I'll be back outside but if anyone has any ideas on what to look for any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you bled the cooling system properly? That is raised the header tank as far as possible while filling? Full details in RAVE.
Damp footwell could be leaky a pillar to roof joint, windscreen, door seal, sunroof drains or leaky heater.

Thank you for your reply.
Ye, raised the header tank until coolent came out of the bleed screw. Ran her up to temperature, let her cool down and topped up the expansion take. Seemed to go very smoothy. I replaced the thermostat on my last td5 with no issues so can't understand how this one is not working properly.

The water in the footwell is fresh (no colour, smell or taste) so it's not from the coolent system.
I'll have to investigate the leak some other time as the overheating is definitely a priority.

Do you get new thermostats that are faulty?

Possible. Maybe worth popping it in a pan to test or just try another new one.

I wish I had replaces the standard pipe clips with jubilee clips now as it is a bit of a pain getting the thermostat out.
I'll try another new one I recon.
On the plus side a managed to change 3 of the door actuators with total success today. Now they all work.

Just found a leak in the radiator. Will look into replacing it and see if that fixes it .

Can anyone recommend an aluminium radiator for a td5?
