Hi I am new to the forums so firstly I would like to say hi to everyone...

I am looking for advice on updating the suspension on my 2000 discovery 2 v8 es with ace and self leveling, Ive had the disco about 6 months now and have converted to it to lpg but I am a little dissapointed with the on road performance ie its a bit bouncy and feel all bumps.

I have had a shogun and grand cheokee previous to this and i must say they deliver better on road performance than the disco, but overall I am more than pleased with it.

I am thinking of changing the suspension and steering dampners to Bilsteins and all the bushes to poly bushes.

My question is, is there going to be much difference between the standard setup is it going to be like night and day difference ???

The wife aint to keen on driving it due to the ride does not fill her with confidence, I use it mainly and dont really do any off road driving other than dirt tracks around farmers fields when I am shooting so dont need its full off road capabilities.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

I could be wrong but I think the Shogun and Grand Jeep Cherokee are designed to be more of a road car with off road ability as opposed to the Discovery which was designed to be a on/off road car, so there is a trade off between off road ability and good road manners.
Changing your suspension probably will not do much to improve that and you may find poly bushes will make the ride harsher.
If you really want to sharpen up the cornering ability then you may need to drop the body and use stiffer springs like boy racers do.
So it kinda asks the question do you have the right vehicle for what you want it to do?
Maybe a Freelander or RangeRover Sport would suit you better??????;) :deadhorse:
 
Thanks for your reply range rover sport would be lovely :D, its not the cornering thats the problemas the ace covers that quite well, its more just the ride, was just hoping the blisteins would give a better ride then the standard shocks by that i mean not so bouncy around bumps, the car tram lines a lot but that is probably the 18" tyres maybe it would ride better with 16" on the disco instead ??
 
its also been mentioned to me chaning the tyres over to general grabber at2 would also give better ride as they dont tramline as much ?
 
I got Grabber AT2s and the ride improved a lot. That was not my reason for changing the tyres, as i didnt expect too much from a discos ride! I just fitted koni shocks and that has made a huge difference.

In what way have the Koni's improved it, what Disco do you have I would be interested in hearing ???
