My ignition barrel is on its way out and the key gets stuck half way at times. I don’t want to replace all my keys as I have 4 and don’t want to have a different one to my doors. How do I go about getting a replacement to match my keys and is it a diy job to replace or a specialist job?

thanks
Scott

Take the barrel out and file the leading edges of the brass wafers so that the key turns in the barrel.
The key and/or the wafers wear until they get to the point where the key will not depress them enough into the barrel to not foul as you try to turn the key.
I had to leave my key in the position just before 1, i.e. in "unlock the steering lock", cover it up from prying eyes and then lock unlock the car with another fob.
Was a real pain!
There are threads on here, I have a vague feeling I did one myself, to tell you how to get to the barrel and remove it, to do this. Just found it, https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/making-your-ignition-key-work-in-a-disco-2.359475/

Best of Luck!

Thank you for that I will have a read now. If almost seems like there are bearings in there that don’t seem to want to be pressed in and the the key get stuck on them.

I didn't put any pics up cos there are pics all over the other thread that someone put a link up to.
The only tricky part is getting the pin out that is there to hold the barrel in to the other bit.
Once you get it out and do the biz, to keep the pin in place, either glue it or put a small cable tie around it. There is a plug there with a cable tie holding it to the lock, so all you need is to put another one next to it.
Post of message if you get stuck.
You'll love it once you've done it.:)
