I was doing an oil change this afternoon and I noticed behind the front bumper at the bottom is some kind of reinforcing bar. It looks like the flanges on the sides bolt on, so hopefully it can be replaced easily as it is as wrotten as, well, a landrover!!
What is this part called, and how much is it? Also will I get away with removing the flanges and welding my own bar in? Thanks.

Got mine off ebay 260677166647 £10+£9.50 postage. seems more substansial than original.

Done this part today, what a bugger the bumper is to remove!!! Sliding rubber mount, yeah right!! All went together much easier than it came apart, but noticed about a 3/4" gap on the n/s above the bumper compared to the o/s. A swift large mallet to the chassis extension piece where the bumper mount is located through the towing eye hole and it is nice and square!! Anyone looking, the replacement bar fits internal to the chassis where as the original is external.

Here are some before and after pictures i took for anyone who is interested in looking.

Mines looking dodgy too, but hopefully not as bad as yours, might get away with a few coats of Hammerite - it's on the list of things to do

Can anyone tell me what this bar is called and where to get one I have the same problem it is nearly rusted in half.

I think it’s generally known as an under ride protection bar, the bottom of the bumper is secured to it and it adds a little bit of protection in front of the steering/ anti roll bar. You can get one that’s supposedly for a winch bumper off the bay for 10 pound as mentioned above.

Also, the one off ebay is shorter than the old one, so don’t panic as it does just sit on the inside of what i think is the chassis? As opposed to the outside like the old one.

I made a new one using the ends off the old one, and a piece of steel tube. 5mm thick wall. It will still be in one piece when the rest of the Disco is gone.:p

thanks for the quick response ill see if I can find one.

How easy are they to fit?

I done mine without removing front bumper. There is a long narrow plastic cover underneath the radiator. Take that off, and you can get into all the fixings. Two long bolts through chassis at each end that also hold the crash cans of the front bumper. You dont need to fully remove the bolts. Just knock them through far enough to drop the bracket from outer face of each chassis leg. I think from memory the front towing eye is attached to the near side chassis as well.

That sounds more promising but still struggling to find the part googling it and checking eBay.

Awesome mate thanks for the info it is in the garage Thursday for service and health check so hopefully no major surprises waiting for me and I will have a Shopping list to put in.

I removed mine as it didn't fit after fitting a discreet winch mount. Cut off a large portion of the bumper too. Looking to get a winch bumper and steering protection in a month or so.
