Hi All,

Getting geared up to buy a disco 2, Just need to clear the 10p engine and the later 15p
does anyone know the changeover year? been advised to steer clear of the 10p but not much around
of the later 2003/2004 discos, Any help would be appreciated is the 10p really that bad? and what should I be looking for when buying either car. Thanks

My 10p is fine. The only potentially serious issues were the head dowels and the lack of loctite on the oil pump securing bolt. Very few will still have an issue with the oil pump as it is a fairly easy switch - just drop the sump when you change the oil and swap for a new one with loctite already applied. Putting it back is a bit more tricky...
I would ask about the dowels and ask to see the evidence if they have been changed. Not sure if these issues were resolved in the 15p.....
Another con is the ECU which cannot be flash upgraded by Nanocom, but has to have the chip programmed directly by a specialist. No biggie.
A plus on my 1999 model is that the road tax is cheaper and it never came with a catalytic converter.

Don’t be worried about the 10p 15p engine thing they both have the flaws go on chassis condition and if it’s a td5 to make sure it starts nicely from cold

Thanks guys, some really helpful points, seen a few already just seem to be priced all over the shop
Yup, and many of the expensive ones in dealers are tarted up rubbish. Price is no guarantee of quality at the moment. Best plan is to find one being sold by an enthusiast.
