Having reluctantly sold my trusty old Defender, I took delivery of 51 plate Discovery Td5 GS over the weekend - one private owner from new and with only 23,000 miles on the clock, (looks great in Epsom Green Metallic as well). Driving back home on the M40 yesterday, the Disco's turbo lost power and I arrived at my destination some 2.5 hours later on the back of a RAC low loader. In fairness to the dealership (private), they picked up the Disco first thing this morning and having diagnosed a disconnected pipe feed to the turbo, fixed the problem and all now appears to be well.

Answers to the following question would be greatly appreciated.

1) Is the above likely to have caused any other problems with the engine, dirty oil etc?
2) The Disco is due a service (last one 12 months ago). It is 5 years old but has only covered 23,000. Offical Land Rover recommendations aside, what will really need doing to the car when it goes in for service?
3) What are the key things that go wrong with Series 2 Disco's? Hopefully, with a 51 plate LR would have ironed out any problems that may have come with the S/T/V platers?

Thanks

Hi sorry ive only got maintenance check sheet for td5, im sure you can get one from the cd rom or somewhere on the web, i got mine from another landrover forum site called disco2.com but it seems to have problems at the moment as i cant access it ,why not ask the forum if anyone has one .cheers gazv70

just a thought friend.

Landrovers are tough old beasts. The Td5 will take a fair bit of stick, especially with so low mileage on it. I'd be surprised if it needed anything.

mine suffered from a collapsed turbo hose and was filling the road with blue smoke and refusing to accelerate.

After repair. My cure - find an open road and drive the 'rods' off it.

no better way to clean it out.:)

no worries,

I've got a CD with the workshop manual for the Series II Discovery on it.

Send me an email with your postal details: to quboid@lineone.net and I'll post you a copy.

NB this is not an open offer to anyone!! (buy it off ebay like i did)
