gotcha. It is the same as mine.
Do you have and connectors/cables that go to the wiper motor itself?
The 2 wires that you have, go to the 3 pin plug, with the black wire in the middle; but there are a pair that branch off and go to the back of the wiper (cant take the wiper out at the mo, to see exactly where they go.
If yo follow those wires you have into the body, there should be a 8way connector like the pic below. Note the green/orange wire top left and the brown/green wire next to it. these are the two coloured wires

They have no connectors on either the wiper motor or the car and when I test the both of the wires from the car only one is live even when the switch is on have checked fuses all ok. have put up a pic of the wiper motor to see if that helps. The disco is a V8i 1996 3.9 auto.

i have the same model as you 1996 3.9V8i auto (now converted to 300tdi) and i think your problem is that sombody tried to fit the wrong wiper motor to your disco as that does not look the same as my wiper motor. mine has 2 diffrent connections on the motor a large connection and a smaller one. that may be why its not connected as whoever changed it could not get it to work. you may need to get the correct motor and replace the orignal wireing to get it sorted. this is the one that is in mine its the later 300tdi version.Discovery 1 300TDI Rear Wiper Motor DLB101640 Original Equipment | eBay.
