Hi all

New to the forum and my first tome posting.

I'm after some advice on steering boxes.

The bottom seal on my D2 TD5 steering box has gone however I can't get the seal put its snapped 2 pullers so far.

I do have a disco one that I'm using in my series build, can the steering box from a 300tdi D1 be fitted to the D2 or are they different boxes ?.

Thanks
Joe

Take the box out, take to local garage to apply some heat and the steering arm will come off. Fit a decent seal kit and job done.
Or cut a slot in the arm with a grinder, bear in mind a good steering arm isn't cheap.
I broke a SP puller the first time, bought the proper puller the 2nd time and come off easy.
EDIT: I am presuming you meant you can't get the drop arm off rather than the seal.

No the arm comes off fine

It is the part then holding the seal in place that won't come free from the spline shaft. It's shredded two pullers so far.

Would a disco 1 box fit ?

Is it the circlip you are having a problem with? The seal should come out like any other seal really.
I guess it's pretty much the same set up as a Defender, some good videos on YouTube.
