Ok so finally got the new rubber fuel pipe from the tank to the lift pump and the disco runs perfect, revs great and tick over great!!

Thanks you everyone for all your help!! Very much appreciated.

But then I brought it for a spin and noticed a pretty bad whining noise when turning the wheel, I presume its something to do with the power steering pump, I had a look at the power steering reservoir and it is the fluid was very bubbly and just touching the bottom of the dipstick. Beneath the reservoir it seems to be leaking very badly (All the pipes are covered) But I suppose I should really start a new thread?

Low oil in the PS reservoir will make the pump cavitate causing noise, (clue, the bubbles), check for PS oil leaks at the return hose clamps or the steering box.
My D1 has a slight leak on the return hose, so I need to check PS oil regularly, I'll fix it properly some time.
