Hi
I have this discovery 1 3.5 v8i which had starting issues. I've had it idling for abt 3 mins all together and recently tried to start it and it only turns slightly and stops as if the crankshaft is too stiff. I've now realised the car has no oil but is only abt 3 mins of idling and a bit of turning over enough to seize an engine with no oil? And if it is what is the best way to fix this?

No oil = its fkd…...pull sump off & the bearing caps & see what damage its done you might get away with
just fitting a new set of shells. Any scoring on the crank & its a rebuild.
Pictures are required.

Best of luck.

There alway a small amount of oil remained in the galleries and on working surfaces therefore 3min won’t matter, the engine will seize if it overheats (boil over).
Possibly u have an iffy battery starts first time but then drained therefore insufficient voltage/current to turn over the engine a second time, its not unknown.

I don't think it's the battery as I already knew the battery was buggered so I used jump leads to try an start it but it made no difference. Also the car has some kind electrical short as the lights come back on after a while even when they've been switched off
