Hello everyone,

An easy task this week... or so you would have thought...

I have a 200 tdi discovery 1 engine in my 1986 land rover ninety. I have replaced the aux belt for the alternator and water pump twice in less than a year.

I have purchased two different brands, and both were as useless as each other... a couple of months in and they squeal like a pig. Looking at the belts I would have said they are too narrow.
Can anyone link me to any reliable belts or even better- tried and tested?

Are you absolutely sure the pulleys are in line?

Yep, all aligned. I've just done the water pump with new bearings and gasket. I've checked and triple checked I've got the right tension on the belts, still the same results. The overall condition of the pulley wheels are very good.

Good for you, then you just need to hope someone with more relevant experience on the model comes back to you, someone like @discool .as he told me the other day he knows about 200tdi Discos. Mine are all later.:(

Umm, if I state anything on this forum relating to the D1 it’s the series, so it’s a 200 series NOT 200tdi there’s a difference. I’ve never had any interest in diesel engines... perhaps if U wish to quote people in the future do it correctly. :p

The alternator belt when the engine left the factory part number was ETC7469, and the spacer RTC5689
As for the the belt for the water pump pulley ERR810 but the parts book description is “belt-ve power assisted steering“.
I expect the numbers have been superseded by now it the belts are still available. Most if not major belt manufacturers have a cross reference list with the vehicle manufacturer’s part numbers.

And so back to work :(

Eeeyup, chill out a bit guys... you only have one life so live it ;)

Anyway, back to the question... Perhaps I'd be better off going to a land rover specialist and seeing what they use?

No, don't bother just yet, some one on here who knows your engine will come on and tell you about it.
Ignore the bollox between members, tis nothing.
There are plenty of experienced and professional peeps on here. All you need is patience.

The codes you sent are actually coming up with Bearmach belts, I'll wait and see before putting an order in. Thanks for your response :)

I didn't actually send any codes, so this must be Discool's codes however, if in doubt, give someone like Paddocks a look on their website or the phone. If no one else comes on in the meantime.

Without wishing to insult you in any way or form, you are aware that it is a good idea to retighten a belt after 100 miles or so as they loosen a bit with use? Please don't get upset if you have done what to most is obvious!:)
 
Gates belts or DAYCO, don't waste money of anything else, take that from a 200Tdi long term sufferer who put brand new gates on years ago and only replaced them recently due to fitting a new water pump, alternator and PAS pump recently.

ERR810 is available from DAYCO & Gates
ETC7469 is available from DAYCO & Gates

I own a Land Rover... I'd say my level of tolerance is quite high after a few years of bolts snapping, fuses blowing, soggy seats and bearings less useful than a Cadbury's creme egg. You haven't offended me I can assure you, but the answer is yes regardless, I check the tension so often my neighbours think I live under the bonnet.
