Hi i have been a member for a while now but this is my first post, i am from South Yorkshire, recently sold my defender 90 which i fully rebuilt with a new 300 tdi, so im not a stranger to doing my own mechanics.I now have a Discovery 2 automatic, with 165 k miles, td5, which is causing me lots of headache, (wish i had never sold my defender). Here goes the story ! For the first 2 weeks the disco drove fine, went on holiday for a week leaving it under the car port. When i got home it had a flat battery which jumped fine, i then moved it out of the car port leaving it over night facing down hill. It rained during the night ( dont know if this is relevant, but it may have leaky sunroofs). It would not start a couple of days later, it now has the S and M green lights on and a B with a slash through it in the millage display, with the loud beeping. The immobilizer light goes out when it is unlocked, i can hear the fuel pump priming so they are fine. So Autotronix diagnosed the problem with no power to the gearbox position censor. He stated that the brown and purple wire should be live, so wanting to fix the problem my self i tested the wiring which showed the brown and purple wire was not live with the ignition on or off, and did not have a good earth at all. There is a live wire in yellow colour i think, I presumed that the wiring was at fault and that the gear box position censor was fine, so after many days of removing the center console and the dash i followed the purple and brown wire to the bcu box. The wiring was fine but there was still not a good earth through this wire, i unplugged all the wires to the bcu unit and plug them back in, all of a sudden the was a good earth through the brown and purple wire but still not live when ignition was turned on. The next step was a second hand gearbox position censor, which was purchased from Dough Dransfield which he assured was working fine when removed. This was fitted but again to no joy, could there be water damage further back in the disco ? Is autotronix wrong but i have used him many times before and find him very knowledgeable. Im at my wits end, i do like the disco but much prefer my old defender 90 ! It also has a leaky ACE block under the drivers seat but that is another story i will not bore you with ! Any help will be much appreciated, thank you Ben Frudd:(
