Blimey!!!! To be fair though.... :D
My boss destroyed a 3 series bmw engine having no oil.... Now remind me how many oil warning systems are just under the speedo on one of those???

I am a chauffeur for my perils - many cars to deal with. The tdv8 RRS barely uses oil - but at 36k miles, she is on her FOURTH alternator!!!

The db7 always needs checking, while the 911 throws a wobbler at anything lower than ' correct level'.
Many cars - all different systems. All but the 911 have dipsticks! Electronic warnings these days really are just ignored by 'joe average'.

What makes me think about the tdv6 - like the tdv8....there is a big yellow sticker inside the fuel flap. Telling you to CHECK the oil every 500 miles!

How many of these owners do? IE the vw beetle comes brand new with a top up oil.......because those engines use a lot of oil even new - no owner of those has proberbly checked their levels between services!!

Ah well - back to browsing for a replacement tdi 90....

:DI'll stick with my 11 year old d2 for as long as I can , it has a dip stick , oil checked at least 2 times every week, never wanted topping up between oil changes, wife keeps on about having a d4 but I keep cocking a deaf un. I can't see any logic in changing a good car for one with no dipstick just to have the latest reg plate.

Get a D3 then - still have a dipstick... but it's a million times better than the D2... it's actually fun and interesting to drive, the electrics all work, it's comfy. Seriously, it's just loads better.

It will just rust and snap in half:D d2s chassis rot worse than any lr ever made
I'll stick to my d3

I had a 1953 daimler that you pressed a button to check oil level (showed how much on fuel guage) , but I still used the dipstick. Its a fairly critical item , as they dont last long without , Ah sorry you already know that

I had a customer who worked there, he said there was deliberate sabotage to get overtime doing the repairs at the weekend on overtime rate though Ive heard rover cottoned on to it and stopped it

I was speaking to a guy yesterday who's girlfriend worked at Land rover. I suggested she should inquire about setting up a quality control department!
Had a new 110 in for a bumper etc anyway the body caps were coming loose as someone had forgot 99%of the rivets on a £30k motor thats not funny and the door handle fell off as the wrong screw was used:rolleyes:
Obviously main dealer was a waste of time so I did repairs

2 of our fleet had all the body bolts loose. Apprently they were south african built or spec. The rest were ok . Well as ok as a fender gets.

The side steps are **** on new defenders, water gets under them after 6 months and just bubble and corrode like hell
