I have a Disco 2 Adventurer which comes with the dvd player in the roof for rear passengers.:)

When I bought the vehicle the previous owner put a DVD in teh side & showed me it working & playing sound through the headphones.

For some strange reason since i got it home (& I have owned it for 6 months or so now) I cannot get it to play a DVD.
I have used proper bought DVDs & when incerted it trys to loads then & after a while says "Invalid Media" on the screen & ejects them:(
If I put a music CD in it will play the sound through the headphones

I took the player out of the roof & it appears that there are two ports that you could plug the power lead into
Does anyone know if this makes a difference ie whether they were designed for different regions ?

I would be grateful for any information of if anyone has an installation manual for one of these systems that I could have a copy of

Do like to have eveything working as it should be on my Lanny

Thx for you help

Hello,

What I have had on normal DVD-players and PC-DVD-players is that they are in the wrong region-code.
The dvd and the player must be in the same region-code.
Normally you can switch it from one region to an other, but for example on a PC-dvd-player I have had the case where it was limited in number of times I switched.

This is done so that people don't just buy DVD's anywhere in the world. :(

Not all DVD's have this security "entered" and work anywhere in the world.

If the previous owner had a DVD without, or from the correct region, it my well have worked.

....it's a possibility.
Check if there is a posibility the check (and maybe alter the region-setting) on the DVD-player.

Regards, Koen

DO you have the RAVE CD? If not you can download it from the green oval site. This includes a full workshop manual for the D2 and also has accessory fitting guides (including the roof mounted DVD player). It may help with the power thing.

As you live in the uk, providing the car isnt an import the dvd should be a region 2. All shop bought dvd`s will be region 2 (it tells you on the back of the dvd case). Alternatively try a music dvd most of these are usually a region 0 and will work on any region player.
Where abouts are you in the west midlands ?

Good idea Sandman -I didnt know that was on there

Thx

Well, after reading up on the RAVE documents this morning it appears that there are codes that I need to key in to change to region 2 and I have to tell it that the vehicle has a 6 cd system too.

The previous owner had an aftermarket stereo fitted that did not use the multi CD player
Will have some fun this week end trying to sort what it wants

Thx ALL for you help

So it has a region-code as for PC-players.

Does that mean you can play dvd's from your 6-cd-player??
That sound tricky as it is a CD-player, not a DVD-player.:suspicious:

somebody might have 'bricked' it, some DVD players will play other regions, you have about half a dozen times (having a region 2 player, then putting region 1 disc in and changing back to region 2) before the DVD player is locked in that region for the last disc played/inserted.

worth checking to see if a region free DVD will work in it, if you know somebody who has one, or it just could be a case of cleaning the lense using a cleaning disc, but buy a good qaulity cleaning disc, not a cheapy one

Well, I have now checked the settings and itis Region 2
I have also set the system to accept the multi cd player,
I bought a Sony cleaning disc and ran it through the player

and still it comes up Invalid media

I even had the centre console & radio out to check all the wires were OK - all seems good & no reason why not i guess as its a factory fit unit

Guess Its just died from when i bought it to getting it home
Could I be that unlucky ??

Hi Chaps,

Did anyone get to the bottom of this? I've got the same model and have this problem as well?

Appreciate this thread is ancient history, but worth a punt! :)

Cheers,
Soss

i had the same issue in the and spent alot of time and affort trying to get it sorted But in end purchased a new dvd player and fitted it now kids happy in the back

Cheers for the reply - just out of interest, was it the centre mounted DVD and what did you replace with (i.e. was it a good fit etc.).

Thanks again.

I fixed the LR DVD player in my Disco 2. There were two problems.

1. The LCD screen was dark - the flat flexible cable had two copper tracks broken. This was caused by cable touching the guts of the hinge. Repaired using thin wire soldered to the tracks

2. The DVD drive did not read the CD/DVD, the player came with Invalid media message and ejected the CD/DVD. I tried number of DVDs and also CDs, none were accepted. I dismantled the drive to get access to the laser lens. After inspecting its surface with a magnifier i found it is covered with thick layer of fine dust and also one hair made it across its surface. Cleaned with IPA, the whole thing was put together and finally got it working!!

The only thing that bothers me is the sound only comes through the player's headphones and not via the car stereo. I have factory CD change unit under the seat and Alpine head unit. There is no amplifier in my car. This is how it came out of the factory.

Does some get the DVD system playing the sound through the car radio? Does the radio need to be switched somehow to accept the DVD sound?

Was it first registered abroard ? My mate has a BMW, made in Germany but designed for Arabia. Even the " Things are closer than they appear " in the side mirrors are in Arabic. He has the same problem. He can play music DVDs but not movies.
