i have changed all bushes on every moving part in my disco, also dampers and springs (also steering damper). Proplem is when im driving, it wonders all over road. i have to correct all the time with steering, and when turning in corner it sort of "bite" inside corner? i have corrected wheelangles just week a go. could someone help? (sorry 4 bad english) :scratching_chin:

do a search on self-centering.........could be swivels, caster angle, adjustment on steering box.

Has it appeared since you have changed something? If so that will give you a clue where to start.

If you dont know then you'll have to work your way through......

problem has been over year in disco (i bought this way) previous owner said to me that polybushes are the cause of this sort of behavior. so: i changed all new original bushes-> same thing... swivels should be ok, bacause those are new, only the preload can be the problem, i´ve never thout that (also no other mecanic) ii even changed all balljoints, didnt helped. i have a video when i´m driving and i have to correct steering all the time. i´ll have to download in youtube so everyone can see it. And yes u are right that: steering doesnnt selfcentered easily! it is sort of too light?

we even taked of all lifting parts from front to end, and same thing... tryed many tires and wheels (i´m a tyreshop owner)

Is there any slop in the steering from steering wheel to wheels??

Is this on a flat road, they do suffer from 'tramlining' quite a bit.

i dont understand very good english... but if you mean this: when disco is turned of: steeringwheel has some slack, say 3,5cm left to right. BUT, when i turn it on: slack disapperars by half? wierd... all rods are new. and the disco has fresh mot, if this means your car yearly check by law?

i´ll have 2 checked tomorrow, if it can adjusted... turn the steering allway to the left or right, then lock the droparm, then check the play?

Hi I think Bluebeasty may be right , the wrong swivel pre load can cause the problems you are experiencing .

Re check thè pan hard rod bushes this can cause the problems poly bushes normaly last longer then std from what you describe it could be this.
The way to check is to have some one in the car rocking the steering with the car on the ground and lay under thè car engine not running and watch thè bushes and you might be able to see thè bush moving. Also with thè steering lock off wobble the steering shaft that connects the colounn to the steering box and check for any wear in the shaft and check the bolts that hold the Ujs. Togther.

ok, ill try soonaspossible-here in finland, winter is coming and we have to work hard (wintertyre season) so my freetime is limited, but i keep informing what will happen! thanks all!

something new at this area in my disco, streering arm? droparm? i dont know in english... wasnt straight. it pointed littlebit on the left, i corrected it pointing straight and it someway helped the steering...

did you tighten the box also, i didnt... should i? when steering wheel is straight, slack littlebit disappears, but when i turn half round the steering wheel has several centimetres backlash.

box is and should only be adjusted when exactly central as when moved to either lock freeplay does occur its how its designed ,as sector shaft turns through its arc it comes away from rack and worm ,if adjusted not centrally it would tighten or break going thru center
