Just replaced battery now car will not start (300tdi).I have checked battery volts ok at 12.2 soleniod not clicking Think it may have something to do with alarm as it beeped when batt. was disconnected.

Tried wire from battery to solenoid car starts ok
tested solenoid wire at starter nowt there

sounds like immobiliser problem, easy way out though.... take the kick panel off near the accelerator pedal then find the starter relay, i think theres about 3 or 4 relays in there, the starter one has a red and white wire going to it, earth out the relay and the car will start (black wire)

cheers clutchdust I finally sorted it after much probing and headscratching by removing battery connection for 30 secs and it has sorted itself out
must have acted as some sort of reset maybe
