I recently purchased 4 disco wheels for my defender and put them on fine all tight on the weel nuts and i go to travel faster then 40 mph and it feels like the car has a mind of its own or that i had been drinking prior to driving. I do not feel safe when driving because im worried the car will drift lanes and i will hit someone. Please can anyone help!!!!!

Warped rims?

Uneven wear?

Are they different width to what you had? This can alter the feel of the steering quite radically

I had on there before the original white rimmed wheels that come on defenders from 1991. The new ones aren't warped. Have good tread, they possibly aren't balanced and are wider then the old wheels

Are you sure they are seating on the hubs properly? And are you using the correct alloy wheel nuts? If the answer is no to either that could be your problem

i found the discovery dont fit on to the hub properly on the front due to not enough depth inside the alloy and nuts from stub axle hitting. spacers needed. fit straight on back. and mines an 87

lol thats what i was trying to get at any idea where to buy them from as iv just purchased a set of boost alloys es type to put on mine. last time i drilled them out a bit so they fit!

If you used a gun to tighten them how do you know if they're torqued up properly? Does the gun have adjustable torque settings?
The last time I had a puncture sorted at Kwik-Fit (It was a Sunday. Few other options, honest!) the mechanic rattled them on with an impact gun before the 'fitter' came out with a torque wrench which of course went 'click' without the nuts even tightening a bit!
What did make me smile was when I tried to show the 'fitter' how to adjust the suspension (It was a Disco 3) he told me he didn't need my advice as he'd been changing L/R wheels for many years. He then proceeded to select low range in the transfer box before wrestling with the wheel for a good half an hour while I sat and drank coffee with a smile on my face as the wheel stayed firmly on the ground even with the jack fully extended! :D
Wakners!
