I'm about to spend a fair bit on my disco and wonder what it would be worth after all the work?

Will have: new boot floor, new sills, new full service all oils and cam belt ect.. All holes patched up, rust proofed and under sealed, 1997 p reg 154k on clock, no sun roofs :) few scratches and few dents ect.. not gonna sell it though just wondering how much it would be worth?

Thanks for any valuations/opinions.. :)

LH side of a twix. If you get the engine & gearbox reconned. it might even reach a full twix. BUt it'd need to be in mint condition
 .

I recently sold my pals Disco for £2200

It was a 95 plate with a genuine 91,000 miles on it and he paid £2300 for it, then spent £3000 on it and never used it as he lost interest and it was still worth only £2200 at the end of the day, with no rot, new wheels & tyres all round inc the spare, new suspension, winch bumper etc etc.

Some guy got a bargain mind you :D

If you're keeping it does it matter? :suspicious:

Never, ever spend money on a Disco thinking you'll either get it back or increase its value.
It will never be the case.

Mine is worth 1/4 of what I've spent on it, but then I've absolutely no foreseeable intention of ever selling it.

Yip like other folk said it doesn't matter how much you spend, as long as your happy & keeping it, then it's ok. But you will never recoup what you spend. (Unfortunately)

Ain't gonna sell up just wondering what you would expect to pay for a solid disco, just thinking to my self should of I spent more money (say 1400 quid) on buying a solid one rather than 800 quid on one that needed work? And if I paid too much for it, has 12 month mot though.

Yeah fully understand that, I'm gonna keep it though, is my first land rover / 4x4 so don't really know much about there value, happy with it though and prepared to spend a few quid on it to get it up together :)

Paid £1k, for mine 3 years ago, it's M Reg' and just hit 220,600 Miles, not failed an MOT and no major failure's  (cursed it now).
Buy it mate, you can always scrap it, once you've sold all the useful parts

I think the ceiling at the moment on an original unrestored D1 with silly low miles is likely to be ITRO £4k.
As more and more get scrapped and they move into classic status the values of nice ones will start creeping up. Unfortunately, there's a lot of rubbish out there at the moment which is keeping values down. I think there's actually more rubbish out there than good ones!

I said to my missus the other night when she mentioned me getting a 'decent' car and getting shot of 'drover' (the kids name for my 300tdi).

Its my hobby - I don't drink, smoke or go out, I prefer to pour my spends into my lovely pile of blue rust out the front that gives me a big smile whenever I drive it! Borrowing the FiL's D2 and I can honestly say I prefer my 300tdi - I know, I know, but there is something reassuring about straight mechanicy bits over all the electronic gizmos - I've even started loathing driving the wife's passat which we bought together when we were getting wed.

Its at the point now, a bit like the series/fender mindeset of adapting it to suit yerself - I don't mind rivetting/bolting something to it that is pleasing/helpful to me - I enjoy seeing what others have done to theirs and thinking 'yeah, I'd like some of that' and then working out how to do it to mine if I don't get to talk to the bod concerned or don't have enough dough in the fun pot!

Give me my big ol' chunky bus anytime.

Other side of the world me and same opinion as most of the above posts, paid 2500 nz (1250 gbp) for my 96 tdi with over 200k miles, love it, cost me around 500 nzd in first year to pass compliance test , swivels, service parts, hoses, fluids, and new cambelt kit, did work myself, I intend to spend the same this year but there is no depreciation and it does what I want which is tow mission controls horse trailer and as a bonus it makes me smile.

Its the roughest sounding engine that still works OK ive heard.

Parts are cheap and its good on diesel too.

Lucky i joined the AA recovery service tho, dodgy fuel solenoid wiring caused embarrassing arrival back home on tow truck and annoyed mission control one night :D luckily horse was not in tow at the time.

Another time when the plastic bung let go in the rad I only just got back home ..every trip is a potential adventure :)
