Change the gear oil- there are several companies offering different oils.

You want oil suitable for an R380 box.

If that doesn't do it, the box needs replacing.

It's almost certainly not the oil and you won't need to replace the box either.

There is an arrangement at the base of the gear selector which comprises of a nylon/plastic ball and socket style thing. When these age, the the ball expands when hot and fouls on the ball or vice versa, can't remember, making gear selection difficult.

All that is required to put this right is to renew the plastic component, very cheap and easy job.

:D Changed the bush`s inside the gearbox & did an oil change aswell . Now it change`s gear smoth as silk . Thank you

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. You wouldn't happen to have a better description of the parts you changed or even the part numbers would you?

Remove the centre console and the rubber boot then the springs and plate and there it is

FRC9985 BUSH GEAR CHANGE PIVOT | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series

But if u are already in there it's good to replace these too for the future LAND ROVER DISCOVERY R380 G/LEVER BIAS PLATE & SPRINGS on eBay (end time 17-Jun-10 17:03:55 BST)

And when u refit it use this procedure:

>
Select 4th gear and move lever fully to the right
and tighten bias plate adjustment bolts to 25
Nm (18 lbf.ft).
> Check adjustment is correct by selecting 3rd
and 4th gears.
