Hi all,

I've been offered a written off disco for naff all. Only problem with it is that water has got into the ecu and killed it. How big of a job would this be to repair or would it just be worth breaking?

Thanks

Albert

The disco is an auto, I prefer manual but does anyone have any experience with them I.e drivability, fuel consumption, acceleration etc when compared with a manual?

Thanks, so no issues with id matching etc. also how easy is it to get to the ecu?

There are effectively three ECUs on a Td5 Disco:

  1. Engine management; located in the engine bay, behind the battery. Easy to get at.
  2. Body Control unit; located behind the passenger glove box. Controls loads of things from wipers to courtesy light timing.
  3. SLABS; Self leveling suspension and Anti-lock braking. Also located behind the passenger glove box. Have to take out the glove box tray for access.
  4. There is also the IDM which contains the relays and switches for the higher current circuits controlled by the BCU. This module is at the rear of and part of the fuseboard found under the steering wheel.

+1^^^ as the basics, though there are some more;)
5. DCU = SRS ECU for airbags and seatbelts under the central console
6. EAT ECU transmission management for automatic models
7. ACE ECU if equipped with
8. Sunroof ECU for electric sunroofs
9. ATC(aircon) ECU for those with digital climatronic

but as I understood the OP is interested only in the engine ECU(ECM)

I've decided against getting it now. Considering all the water damage is under the dash I think there will be a lot of work required to sort it out
