Hi Guys
My dads just had his disco serviced and now has a prob with his box. The car drives and shifts normally but when you give it some right foot it's as if there is a rev limited about 3250-3500rpm. The car try to change up but can't so jerks and bounces round. Now if you speed up gently it will speed up fine and shift to top gear without a problem. Any ideas? Could it be as simple as the wrong gearbox oil?

Just spoken to the guy who works on my auto boxes. He says wrong oil not likley unless garage are total muppets because it should have ATF in it. Possibly not enough ATF ?. His fix is to check solonoids. He would like to run it up and give a proper diagnosis. He is probably capable of doing that ! Then wanted to know if its " Saucepan lidding". I glazed over at this point. Sorry I cant be more help.

Saucepan lidding? What the hells that? Could it be the wrong ATF? I know my rangie needs a certain ATF are the disco boxs as demanding? Could it be anything to do with the kick down?

My guy is John DODD. Tel;0034 659051666. Worth a call for advice, very nice guy. " Saucepan lidding" is the noise a pan makes when its boiling with its lid on. Its the noise the box should not make...apparantly.

trust me on this one its NOT the autobox .its the boost controler(small electric/vaccum solenoid located on the air con bracket near the turbo) or connected hoses(3) .ive had this problem on my 2002 td5 and it drove me crazy until i changed the boost controler and it stoped . if the controler is faulty or the hoses are split or damaged it will cause surging which is exactly what you describe . trust me nothings wrong with the box ;)
