Help peeps!!!!!!! I have a 2001 Auto Td5, with two faults and am unsure which is more serious. The first is a chatter/rattle through the break peddle on start up, like its finding neutral, and the second is more recently due to a permanently SRS warning on the dash. Any ideas?:(

Hi the brake pedal rattle is standard it its the abs pump sorting itself out. Then the srs light could be anything but first off I would check the yellow plugs under the front seats because if the seats get moved back and forth often and there is anything under the seats it could snag the wiring. If that does'nt fix it then it is a plug into a diganostic computer to find a fault.

Agree about the rattle - it was even worse in my freelander but still happens on my TD5.. sounds worrying but it's the ABS pump priming or something. Best way to reassure yourself is to put HDC on and drive down a dirty big hill.. you'll recognise the noise then. "Yes, it is supposed to sound like that!", you'll be telling your worried passengers.

You'll also hear it when the ABS kicks in or more commonly the traction control (which uses the same braking system)

The SRS light came on on mine when I first got it... took it back to the garage and they reset it but it came on again.. that was several months ago, and it hasn't been on since so hopefully you'll find (like many other warning lights eg. ABS, TC) that it will clear itself after a few restarts. Good luck :)

thanks for the info, went straight outside to sort the SRS, funny really cos the missus is quite tiny, and pulled her seat forward, then the light came on!!!!, been under seat, unplugged the yellow sockets and re-connected, and...........Hey presto, tis fixed. Many thanks
