I have a TD5 with 18" sports alloys with 255/55/18 normal road tires on and was looking for BFG ATs but they don't seem to make them for 18":(. Is there a good enough alternative or best to swap them for 17".

I would recommend General Grabber AT2 - 255 55 18 - All terain tyres - or General Grabber UHP - a more road biased tyre- Both are good on tracks, Brilliant in snow - and no extra noise on road. However I think you should consider changing to 16 inch wheels. I did because I found that 18" wheels whatever the tyres tended to follow ruts in the road. I have now settled on General Grabber AT2 235 70 16 for motoring in Poland and a set of General Grabber 255 55 18 for driving across Germany etc. To me this is the perfect combination

Sorry to bring this up again, but can anyone advise if these size tyres will fit a standard Landy TD5 Disco with no lift and body trimming? or will they rub on body when doing the odd rough green lane. As I am not too keen on the General AT2. Thanks in advance.

What I am looking for is a good 18inch wheel that will fit my TD5 I am told that VW transporter wheels will fit Is this correct?

Hi thanks for your message. As most people know when the alloys get old they corrode and leak air and won't seal properly which mine do and I am fed up with them. I have tried most thing to get them to seal. My local tyre company say that whatever I do won't make any difference so that's y I am looking for a different type.
I think if I put steel wheels on they will be smaller which I think will put up the MPG, being less on long runs and I don't won't to go bigger as that also has its own set of problems

Has yours got 16's on alloys, if so what difference is a steel wheel, its all about the tyre i think, mine has 255 65 16 on alloys, no problems at all! last one had 18's on Triple sports again no problems, as with corrosion it all about how you look after them, plus these cars are getting on now, so there is going to be some problems,

I've got the 18" BFG AT fitted to my standard D2 and they fit with no mods, all I had to do was trim the front mud guard a little and adjust steering stops. I would upload a photo but can't on my iPad.
