fold them away, they fit into the resess in the sides, cant see why you need to remove as you can only fit an extra box of cornflakes either side if removed

I've removed seats 6/7 to give more space for a couple of dogs in the back. I too had been thinking along the 2 boxes of cornflakes line, but it turns out to be worth the effort.
The seat mechanism is spring-loaded, and the manual says you have to make a tool to keep the springs in place. I did it using thick bendy wire (thicker than gardening-type wire, thinner than a wire coat-hanger). Re-fitting when I needed the seats again was no problem.
So, start by loosening the fixings (socket set needed). From memory, which is not very reliable, there are 2 nuts (onto studs in the body) and 2 screws (into captive nuts in the body) per seat. Same socket for all of them.
Once you can start wiggling the seat mounting away from the body, it's easier to thread a loop of wire round it to retain the spring. When you've secured the spring, fully remove the fixings.
You get to grovel about a lot in the boot area... but at least there's enough room to do it, and I'm a 6-footer.
Remember to refit the seats for the MOT, or your Disco will be tested as a 5-seater.

So it's tested with 5 seats. So what?
Mine passed recently and no-one counted the seats.
It's MY car, and I will have as many seats in it up to seven as I like.
I might want to take out all the seats except the driver's seat. So what?

Mate of mine has a 300 Discovery that he bought cheap to go fishing with. Didnt pay attention to the rust in the back but took the rear seats and belts out out for the MOT. Nothing on the ticket to say 2 seater! I believe the rule is if there are seats or seatbelts there they must be tested, and the boot floor corrosion is the 6 or so inches to a belt mounting point.
when a vehicle is presented for an MOT test, the tester takes note of the number of seats fitted and has to log the number into the system, it is then recorded onto the VT40 testing check sheet. This information can be made available to insurance companies or the police to see if the vehicle is properly insured/covered for the number of people inside.

With regards to removing the rear row of seats because the floor is rotten. and refitting em after the MOT. Why would anyone endanger their passengers and them selves if the passenger comes over the seats. In the event of an accident. I took my rea seats out because the floor was rotten but I covered the floor with a full sheet of 3/4" ply. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/attachments/f8/3817d1194540788-rusty-boot-floor-image0009.jpg. Somehow I don't think the seats & belts would stay in place on this if it had been involved in an accident.

What a load of bollocks! Who told you that?
That wont make any difference to the mot, what will fail is having extra seats and no belts, not extra belts and no seats. They dont count the seats anyway as its not a minibus.
