Hi, new to this forum and off roading for that matter! I've always fancied a land rover and have some cash to splash! Just wanted to know views on which has the best off road ability, discovery 1 or range rover classic?
Whichever i get i will be fitting suspension upgrades etc... thanks :D

Thanks chaps, i had read somewhere they use the same chassis, just got the impression more people used discoverys. As for a defender, i've only got 1800 quid and figured i'd get more for my money with a disco or range.

Aye go for a disco less electrickery on em. watch out for rotten floors, sills and crossmembers though.

I prefer the looks of the range rover but dont like electrical crap! would be happy with manual windows etc... theres a few discos for sale near me so may check them out. Also a 1990 range rover with a 300tdi motor for £1750 i might check out. Cant decide
I work on old vw's for a living so not afraid of a bit of welding. Are the sills, crossmembers and so on easy to get hold of?

oh aye cheap as chips if you can weld you'll have no problems sorting it out. A full replacement floor panel is only £45

make yer own footwells yer can get an 8' x 4' sheet of 2mm steel for about £40.

cant go wrong with either of them motors.Just get yerself a goodun,

........................... or a defender

Theres a bloke who comes round work who sells us steel pretty cheap, does sheet and angle. Looks like i'l have to go on a landy hunt at the weekend! :D Thanks for the help folks.
