So took the rocker cover off this morning just to make sure all the injectors were connected correctly.

Couldn't see a problem so put back together.
Did the start up think 5 presses of the pedal.
Let it run through then tryed to start.
Nothing tried again nothing.
Checked everything under the bonnet then tried again.
Had no joy it was like it was trying but not quite there.

Anyway checked under the bonnet and the black cap on the front of the end had came out.

I no this isn't good but what caused this?

That black cap is the rocker cover camshaft oil seal. What happens is the rubber O-ring goes off over time, so the cap becomes loose and can, in theory, just fall out.

In reality it's often caused by pressure within the rocker cover - number of causes for this.

Best bet is just replace it and hope it stays there.

Thanks cant get the engine to start now?
in turns over cranks then starts in a fashion then stops is this fuel is the ecu telling it to stop the fuel?

Got it started

First of all cleaned fuel pump this is working
Been trying all day
Took head off again replaced no joy still not starting
Nearly gave up then took head of and checked resistance of the injectors, just thought a difference between them might show.
No such joy all around 0.13 to 0.17

Don't no wether this would show but checked anyway.
All back together still not starting.

Went in for a cuppa and trying to work out my next move.

Tryed a hour later and fired it's definitely one down its sound rough and missing.

Now it's started I'm going to take it to a garage don't really no what else to do?

I fitted a new fuel filter 2 months ago.

I've had the fuel pump out today and it's making the standard noise and you can hear it pumping, also no black sludge in the unit.

What could cause the fuel filter to clog up this fast?

Thanks for response

what make of filter? i only use a good make, bosch on at moment, also how did you get on with the bleed valve?

Bleed valve doesnt work on mine.

I run the engine so it was warm then took off the correct pipe and there was no bleed valve in my current unit.
Anyway put the valve in and it started then run out of fuel and stopped.

Tryed this a few times i looked and looked on the internet and as seirra said on a previous post that was the way i did it.

Everytime i took the bleed valve off and started it started after a couple of turns.

Its as though its not pushing through the filter and its brand new.

Now its running on 4 cylinders today and sounds rough, its got no power and struggling to even drive.

I took it to the local garage and had the faults codes as explained in the previous posts.

Update to post

landy was taken on a recovery truck and taken to a garage.
wouldnt start and hadnt got a glue what else to do.

it turns out injector 2 and 3 were firing sometimes and not others.
After putting in two test injectors it was still the same.
wires all traced back to ecu and i needed a cable from the harness plug to the ecu.
Work is being done tmrw so hopefully have some good news and get her back soon.

hope this might help someone save them money unlike myself :-(

Had the car back from the garage and the problem was a faulty injector harness, I'd replaced this only a month ago it was oem quality no original.

Replaced with genuine landrover then while doing it got them to change copper washers and sesls on injectors.

Now all working fine.

Glad this nightmare 6 weeks is over
