Does that air bleed just go on the end of the fuel filter instead of the black cap, and presume drain the air off?
Im quite new to all this but learning fast lol

Can i bypass the wastegate solenoid ive saw a few threads but none seem really clear of what to do.

I just want to elimnate everything i can.

Did your fuel pump seem quite noisy on start up?
Mine isnt quiet but thought this was just the norm.
I might invest in a new pump regardless as i dont no if its ever been changed and had a few running problems since buying.
Thanks

the black cap as you call it is the water sensor/drain off, the air bleed valve is on the housing itself,

it goes on the rear side of the housing, as pictured, the fuel filter, no mine wasn't noisey or covered in sludge as they tend to do that, it must of been weak!

Thanks for that ill order one for £12.00
Think ill order the pump aswell and get it done.

Do you have any idea of the bypass for the solenoid i just wanna try everything before i go and buy a new solenoid if its not that.

Ive also gotta drive 90 mile back home friday and the way it has been tonight is slightly dangerous i could just keep it to 50 mph and drive all the way back knowing it aint gunna cut out on me and lose power.

I can order all this tmrw and get it done saturday when im back

Great info and pics thank you

Turbo Valve Waste Gate Control , when you look at it you cannot see much at all £25.00 for a new one i think the 1 you might mean is the MAF filter?

Im in bicester on a course just need it to get back as im working 0800 till 1700.
I could do it on saturday if i could get back safely

Did the Bypass wastegate solenoid valve this evening and it worked.
Took it out for a drive and its got alot more pull and power, ive ordered the solenoid and will be replacing when i get back the weekend.
Cant believe such a small thing can cause that much hassle.
Ive also ordered the air bleed valve as ill see if that makes a difference

Thanks for your posts cumbria

let me know how you get on!!

cheers

Right he we go again,
Got home by bypassing the wastegate solenoid and drove 90 mile never went above 2500 revs but it was still pulling up hills.
Did this just to be on the safe side, anyway this morning changed the solenoid valve and went for a drive , when going downhill above 3000 revs it cut out again.
The car was warm and i was trying to put it through its paces to gain abit more confidence in her.
Anyway eventually got her started again and got home, when i got back i thought i would try and change the air valve and put it on see wether it had made a difference.

Did this and it run for 2 minutes then cut out whilst idling.
Im all out of ideas and losing confidence in the car as it spends more time solving problems than driving it :) i no its a landrover lol

Any ideas i could do while im out there today?

Thanks

it's time for proper diagnostic IMO, which means live data readings with a tester... otherwise it's just a kind of guessing game

Just tried ringing but everywhere seems closed at the moment.

Ive now got it started and removed the bleed valve i forgot to say the disco hadnt got a bleed valve fitted and when i put one on it just cut out.

Its running now but dont really trust it wheres the best place to post on here to see if anyone has got a diagnostic machine near myself?

Thanks

are you sure you put it in the right place...which is the rear outer(closer to the wheel) connection of the filter housing? ... i'm asking cos that valve is mandatory and it' was originally fitted on all modells, there is a non-return valve too which was just in the latest modells

yeah thats the one i connected it too i even took the other side off to check.

Anyway i drove to a local garage and he has just connected it up.
He was just leaving so just told me the codes these were :

18 Driver Demand 1 Fault
96 Road Speed Missing Fault

Im trying to look up now
Really nice fella who i think felt sorry for me and didnt charge me.
Still gave him a drink, i may need him again :)

If anyone has seen these codes before all help is appreciated

the "driver demand" fault is about the throttle position sensor's signal to te ECU, sensor fault or wiring, this would affect driveability

the "road speed missing" is about the VSS(vehicle sped signal) supplied by the ABS ECU which also would affect driveability, especially those with auto gearbox

none of these faults would make the engine stop and it's possible they were logged when the voltage dropped.

some live data would be relevant to see readings when the symptom occures, i know this is hard for you as long as you dont have your own tester... i dont remember, did you try with a different pump and it was the same?

no havent replaced the fuel pump

replaced wastegate solenoid
harness

plug on ecu is now clean and cleaned over the last two weeks reguarly and no more oil.

Car drove without fault to the garage and back

Ok so dont really no what my next move is the fella and the garage said it sounded like it was overfuelling.

Thanks for your help so far

I cant get my head around why for one why i havent got a air bleed valve on my fuel filter.

and two i brought one and when fitted the engine runs out of fuel?

could this have something to do with the injector washers?

You will have to bear with me would this have a effect because not enough pressure in system to push fuel through the paper filter?

it may be the fuel pump, take it out and look at the filter in the bottom, see if it's got the sludge etc, that a lot say have had, mine never showed this, but when i changed pump, it cured my problem,

Would the fuel pump cause it to run on four cylinders its running quite rough at present, my neighbour came out and he worked as a mechanic previous and said it sounded like it was running on four.

How easy is the fuel pump to get too?

I was going to take the rocker cover off tmrw and ensure all the harness plugs are fitted correctly.
While im out there i might aswell check the fuel pump.

if your competent to do the harness etc, the fuel pump is fairly easy, mine a 7 seater, i took door trim off the rear carpet etc and folded it back, just make sure you clean around the area before removing then nothing/muck etc drops in, try to take a picture of the fuel filter housing and then we can see! it may just have a ****ty filter in the bottom,

good luck!

Dont think ill be cutting the carpet seirra :)

Ill be doing this tmrw :-( oh this car lol

Cumbria what pump did you buy was it a genuine oem or oem quality pump you replaced with.

theres not a bad difference from £70 through till £250
