Hi, I'm Pete from Crieff in Scotland. Bought a mot failed Disco against all advice from wise old heads in local pub. I've fixed almost everything on the fail slip and feeling quite confident, with the back wheels off the ground, in reverse, I've adjusted the handbrake to hold the propshaft tight.... only to find the wheels still turn !!! That can't be right.
I've never worked on a 4x4 or vehicle with handbrake on prop before, and don't profess to be any more than a diy-er. Is something seriously amiss in my rear axle, or am I just not understanding the principles of limited slip differential?
Any advice?

It's an open diff, so handbrake will only work if both wheels are on the ground.
Test it by parking on a steep slope. Sounds like it should be OK.

Thanks for the reassurance - just panicked at the unknown. Went back down to the workshop, dropped the Disco onto 4 wheels, started up and put it in gear....and it wouldn't move. Handbrake was too tight! Adjusted now and working just right.
Whats an open diff then? DeePete
