Decided to change my OS front door lock today. Same old reason, spring broke, bought a new one about a year ago as I figured if I was going to go to the effort I'd just replace the lot!
Make sure the window is up. First remove the door card, 2 bolts holding the handle, 1 screw in the finishing plate behind the door handle, then go round the outside and pop all the clips off, lift the card up to clear the lock, disconnect the speaker and take door card away.
Remove the vapour sheet. You will now be able to see the linkages into the back of the lock barrel, disconnect the bottom of the link that comes from the lock barrel. Disconnect the long link that comes from the exterior latch from the top. Undo the plate holding the lock solenoid, the top bolts have a plate behind the door, so catch that when you take the second bolt out. The bottom ones are captive.
You can now twist the solenoid about to release the link from it. This Link piece goes to a black plastic bracket which pivots, remove the plastic rivet from the centre and then push the pivot out of the door. Unscrew the inside door handle and twist it about until you release the long link from it.
Now, undo the torx bolt just below the black frame on the back and front of the door, the 10mm bolts in the bottom inside of the door holding the window guides front and back, also the 13mm bolt at the front of the door just below the black plastic quarter that hides the mirror bolts and electrics.
Pry the black triangle off, there is a pin at the top which doesn't want to come out, mine broke, and then two clips at the bottom that just lift out once you have the top freed. Slip something down to release the plug from the holder in the door, pull the plug apart and remove the collar from the bottom half so it can go through the gap in the window frame.
Now simply pull the black frame up on both sides, it's quite flimsy once it's out so be careful with it. It's easy to get out and in so just remove the whole lot. I painted up a rusty bit when I was at it.
Now undo the two screws holding the latch and the bolt, drop the lock enough to undo the door lock link. Now manoeuvre the lock out by pushing it down, then out the hole, and manoeuvre out the long link for the interior handle.
Remove the whole lot, now if you want to just replace the spring do so now or move all the links left on the lock over to the new one, grease up the lock and start your refit.
Feed the handle link back up to where it needs to be, and refit the door lock link, then bolt the lock into place.
Refit all the links. You can now carefully test it all before you go any further.
Then drop the frame back in, make sure the cable for the lock barrel goes BEHIND the frame or the window will snag it.
Rebuild and enjoy a lock that works!
